{"id":8565,"date":"2021-03-10T11:06:25","date_gmt":"2021-03-10T03:06:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=8565"},"modified":"2021-03-10T11:06:27","modified_gmt":"2021-03-10T03:06:27","slug":"malaysia-gets-additional-10000-in-haj-quota-pm-muhyiddin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=8565","title":{"rendered":"Malaysia gets additional 10,000 in haj quota &#8211; PM Muhyiddin"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>RIYADH, March 10 &#8212; The Saudi Arabian government has agreed to give Malaysia an additional 10,000 places under the latter\u2019s&nbsp;haj quota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prime Minister&nbsp;Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin&nbsp;said he&nbsp;made the request during his audience with Saudi Arabian Crown Prince, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, who is also the kingdom\u2019s&nbsp;Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence,&nbsp;at the Al-Yamamah Palace here Tuesday (Wednesday in Malaysia).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen the haj&nbsp;situation returns to normalcy after the COVID-19 pandemic, we will get the additional quota for our pilgrims,\u201d he told Malaysian media at the end of his four-day&nbsp;official visit to the kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Muhyiddin said the\u00a0Crown Prince gave\u00a0a very positive answer and assurance to the request as Saudi Arabia has always welcomed Malaysian pilgrims who are known for being\u00a0well-behaved, well-disciplined\u00a0and less problematic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-10-at-11.03.59.png\" alt=\"haj\" class=\"wp-image-8566\" width=\"497\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-10-at-11.03.59.png 587w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-10-at-11.03.59-300x163.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-10-at-11.03.59-185x100.png 185w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-10-at-11.03.59-350x190.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 497px) 100vw, 497px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Makkah and Madinah are also undergoing expansion development currently in order to cater to more pilgrims in future, the prime minister said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Tabung Haji\u2019s website, the Saudi Arabian government has set the haj\u00a0quota for every country at\u00a00.1 percent of the total population and the quota for Malaysia is currently at\u00a031,600.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Muhyiddin said Malaysians need to be patient&nbsp;as a very&nbsp;limited number of pilgrims were allowed to perform the fifth pillar&nbsp;of Islam last year due to the global pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said there were several other good news&nbsp;coming out of the meeting as Malaysia and Saudi Arabia had formalised the Mecca Road Service&nbsp;initiative with the signing of the&nbsp;Memorandum of Understanding which would ease and simplify the pre-clearance process for Malaysian haj and umrah pilgrims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said these&nbsp;include airport arrangements, visa and passport checking, customs procedures&nbsp;and other logistical arrangements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMalaysian pilgrims no longer need to wait for hours during immigration check in this country.
