{"id":8550,"date":"2021-03-08T13:01:16","date_gmt":"2021-03-08T05:01:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=8550"},"modified":"2021-03-08T13:01:18","modified_gmt":"2021-03-08T05:01:18","slug":"empowering-women-will-continue-to-be-a-top-national-agenda-muhyiddin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=8550","title":{"rendered":"Empowering women will continue to be a top national agenda &#8211; Muhyiddin"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, March 8&nbsp; -The Perikatan Nasional (PN) government has always upheld the principle of women&#8217;s empowerment and will ensure that it continues to be an important national agenda, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Prime Minister said women were one of the most important pillars of national development not only for the social, political, and economic aspects but in all aspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The findings of a\u00a0study show that a 30 percent increase in the participation of women in the Malaysian labor market can increase the country&#8217;s GDP (Gross Domestic Product) between seven and 12 percent per year,&#8221; he said in a pre-recorded message in conjunction with International Women&#8217;s Day 2021 that was broadcast on local television stations\u00a0today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prime minister is currently on a four-day\u00a0official visit to Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said that although success after success has been achieved, the task of empowering women needed to be streamlined as they were still plagued by various issues including stigmatisation and stereotyping that limited their role in certain areas as they are often linked to traditional roles, especially in care and nurturing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-08-at-12.58.13.png\" alt=\"national\" class=\"wp-image-8551\" width=\"493\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-08-at-12.58.13.png 586w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-08-at-12.58.13-300x165.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-08-at-12.58.13-182x100.png 182w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-08-at-12.58.13-350x192.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 493px) 100vw, 493px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTheir tendency to become victims of domestic violence and sexual harassment in the workplace.
