{"id":8406,"date":"2021-02-27T15:17:56","date_gmt":"2021-02-27T07:17:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=8406"},"modified":"2021-02-27T15:17:56","modified_gmt":"2021-02-27T07:17:56","slug":"khairy-willing-to-take-any-approved-covid-vaccines-to-show-all-are-safe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=8406","title":{"rendered":"Khairy willing to take any approved COVID vaccines to show all are safe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 &#8212; Coordinating Minister for the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme Khairy Jamaluddin said he is willing to take any of the COVID-19 vaccines approved by the Malaysian authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Khairy&nbsp;said since many people had safely taken the&nbsp;Pfizer BioNTech vaccine, he wants to opt for the vaccine that is approved next to show that all vaccines are safe and given to the people irrespective of their status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I have been reading people\u2019s reactions\u00a0and opinions for the past few days. The\u00a0Prime Minister (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin),\u00a0Health director-general\u00a0(Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah),\u00a0chief ministers, and frontliners have started to receive Pfizer and there are no side effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Now the people are asking,\u00a0if all the leaders are\u00a0taking\u00a0the Pfizer vaccine\u00a0because it is good stuff, are the rest for ordinary people?\u00a0So, I made a decision yesterday that I will take whatever vaccine that is approved next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Screen-Shot-2021-02-27-at-15.15.36.png\" alt=\"approved\" class=\"wp-image-8407\" width=\"495\" height=\"272\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Screen-Shot-2021-02-27-at-15.15.36.png 582w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Screen-Shot-2021-02-27-at-15.15.36-300x165.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Screen-Shot-2021-02-27-at-15.15.36-181x100.png 181w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Screen-Shot-2021-02-27-at-15.15.36-350x193.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 495px) 100vw, 495px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf it\u2019s Sinovac, it will be Sinovac. If it\u2019s the Russian vaccine, it will be the Russian vaccine. If it\u2019s&nbsp;AstraZeneca (Oxford-AstraZeneca), it will be&nbsp;AstraZeneca,\u201d he told reporters after witnessing the arrival of the first batch of Sinovac vaccine at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) here today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pfizer vaccine&nbsp;is the first and only&nbsp;brand approved by the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) for use in Malaysia so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The envirotainer &#8211; a temperature-controlled container&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;with 200 litres of the vaccine arrived at 9 am at the KLIA&nbsp;from Beijing in a Malaysia Airlines Airbus 330-300 aircraft, Flight MH319, bearing the livery of the&nbsp;<em>Jalur Gemilang<\/em>&nbsp;(national flag).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The COVID-19 vaccine developed by Chinese biopharmaceutical firm Sinovac&nbsp;Biotech Ltd was transported using a passenger-to-cargo flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 200 litres of the vaccine can make available more than 300,000 doses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Khairy said the&nbsp;Pfizer-BioNTech&nbsp;vaccine had&nbsp;been proven safe with&nbsp;no side effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart from&nbsp;Muhyiddin and Dr Noor Hisham, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Minister in the Prime Minister&#8217;s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri&nbsp;as well as Agriculture and Food Industries Minister&nbsp;Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee&nbsp;have also received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indonesia is among the countries that&nbsp;have&nbsp;started using&nbsp;the Sinovac&nbsp;vaccine, with&nbsp;President Joko Widodo being&nbsp;the first person in the country to receive the vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212;
