{"id":7864,"date":"2021-01-17T19:40:22","date_gmt":"2021-01-17T11:40:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=7864"},"modified":"2021-01-17T19:40:24","modified_gmt":"2021-01-17T11:40:24","slug":"imposition-of-state-of-emergency-wont-affect-investors-confidence-azmin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=7864","title":{"rendered":"Imposition of state of emergency won&#8217;t affect investors confidence &#8212; Azmin"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KOTA TINGGI, Jan 17&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8212; The state of emergency previously imposed&nbsp;in the Gerik parliamentary constituency in Perak and Bugaya state constituency in Sabah has proven that such a measure will not weaken investors\u2019 confidence&nbsp;to&nbsp;invest&nbsp;in Malaysia, said Senior Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The International Trade and Industry Minister&nbsp;said instead, foreign investors would view&nbsp;it as the government\u2019s determination and seriousness in&nbsp;containing the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He pointed out&nbsp;that since the emergency proclamation on Jan 12, business activities had continued as usual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Investors are more confident of&nbsp;Malaysia\u2019s success&nbsp;by&nbsp;responsibly dealing with&nbsp;the COVID-19 outbreak, so we will continue the effort.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen we are able to slow down the COVID-19 curve, the country\u2019s economy will recover faster; and if the period is longer, (the impact) will be bigger. Economic activities must continue, as we do not want it to affect&nbsp;jobs and the country\u2019s revenue, especially Malaysia\u2019s Gross Domestic Product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor other (economic) sectors, we hope they will be able to understand the need to safeguard people\u2019s health and safety, as the Health Ministry views that one of the measures to contain the COVID-19 spread is by reducing movements,\u201d he said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nonetheless,&nbsp;Mohamed Azmin said, the government would, from time to time, review the list of industries being allowed&nbsp;to operate based on&nbsp;the latest developments and the country\u2019s COVID-19 situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe government is always open-minded. We will get further views and will refer the Heath Ministry for consideration.
