{"id":7632,"date":"2021-01-01T14:39:42","date_gmt":"2021-01-01T06:39:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=7632"},"modified":"2021-01-01T14:39:47","modified_gmt":"2021-01-01T06:39:47","slug":"malaysia-singapore-terminate-hsr-project-after-failing-to-reach-a-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=7632","title":{"rendered":"Malaysia, Singapore terminate HSR project after failing to reach a deal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 1 &#8212; The Kuala Lumpur-Singapore high-speed rail (HSR) project has been terminated,\u00a0as both countries failed to reach an agreement on changes proposed by Malaysia before the project\u00a0agreement\u00a0lapsed on Thursday (Dec 31).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A&nbsp;joint press statement by Malaysian Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his Singapore counterpart Lee Hsien Loong&nbsp;said the Malaysian government had proposed several changes to the HSR project due to&nbsp;the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Malaysian economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Both governments had conducted several discussions with regard to these changes and had not been able to reach an agreement.
