{"id":7618,"date":"2020-12-31T14:41:24","date_gmt":"2020-12-31T06:41:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=7618"},"modified":"2020-12-31T14:41:27","modified_gmt":"2020-12-31T06:41:27","slug":"malaysias-official-reserve-assets-at-us-105-3-bln-as-of-end-nov-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=7618","title":{"rendered":"Malaysia\u2019s official reserve assets at US$ 105.3 bln as of end-Nov 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 31 \u2014Malaysia\u2019s\u00a0official reserve assets amounted to US$ 105.3\u00a0billion as of\u00a0end-November 2020, while other foreign currency assets stood at US$ 1.51 billion for the same period, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement today, it said the detailed breakdown of international reserves in accordance with&nbsp;the IMF (International Monetary Fund) Special Data Dissemination Standard format provides&nbsp;forward-looking information on the size, composition and usability of reserves and other foreign currency assets, and the expected and potential future inflows and outflows of foreign exchange of the Federal government and BNM&nbsp;over the next 12-month period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The central bank said for the next 12 months, the pre-determined short-term outflows of foreign currency loans, securities, and deposits, which included among others,\u00a0scheduled repayment of external borrowings by the government and maturity of foreign currency Bank Negara Interbank Bills amounted to US$ 8.47 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/8938d4fcdcd916225e5b8301c103cd3d5e9814017684e-1024x547.jpg\" alt=\"US$\" class=\"wp-image-5984\" width=\"438\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/8938d4fcdcd916225e5b8301c103cd3d5e9814017684e-1024x547.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/8938d4fcdcd916225e5b8301c103cd3d5e9814017684e-300x160.jpg 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/8938d4fcdcd916225e5b8301c103cd3d5e9814017684e-768x410.jpg 768w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/8938d4fcdcd916225e5b8301c103cd3d5e9814017684e-187x100.jpg 187w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/8938d4fcdcd916225e5b8301c103cd3d5e9814017684e-350x187.jpg 350w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/8938d4fcdcd916225e5b8301c103cd3d5e9814017684e-800x427.jpg 800w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/8938d4fcdcd916225e5b8301c103cd3d5e9814017684e.jpg 1090w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 438px) 100vw, 438px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe short forward positions amounted to US$6.425&nbsp;billion, while long forward positions amounted to US$1.485&nbsp;billion as of&nbsp;end-November 2020, reflecting the management of ringgit liquidity in the money market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn line with the practice adopted since April 2006, the data excluded&nbsp;projected foreign currency inflows arising from interest income and the drawdown of project loans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Projected foreign currency inflows amount&nbsp;to US$2.438&nbsp;billion in the next 12 months,\u201d it noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BNM said the only contingent short-term net drain on foreign currency assets are government guarantees of foreign currency debt due within one year, which amounted&nbsp;to US$327.6 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are no foreign currency loans with embedded options, no undrawn, unconditional credit lines provided by or to other central banks, international organisations, banks, and other financial institutions.\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The central bank also&nbsp;does not engage in foreign currency options vis-\u00e0-vis&nbsp;the ringgit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212;
