{"id":7236,"date":"2020-12-08T15:09:14","date_gmt":"2020-12-08T07:09:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=7236"},"modified":"2020-12-08T15:09:22","modified_gmt":"2020-12-08T07:09:22","slug":"investigation-into-imported-meat-cartel-case-ongoing-nanta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=7236","title":{"rendered":"Investigation into imported meat cartel case ongoing &#8211; Nanta"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 &#8212; The investigation into the imported&nbsp;meat cartel case in Senai, Johor Bahru, is ongoing, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi told the Dewan Rakyat today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the investigation is being&nbsp;carried out under Paragraph 8 of the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Halal) Order 2011 which stated&nbsp;that any person who certifies that any food, goods or services in relation to the food or goods is halal, is against the order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If convicted, he said, the company could be fined not exceeding RM200,000 and for a second or subsequent offense, not more than RM500,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFurther investigation will also be carried out under the Trade Description (Definition of Halal) Order 2011 if the&nbsp;product was obtained from non-halal source or meat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs of today, investigation officers are in the midst of collecting evidence, recording statements from witnesses and obtaining information and other documents from relevant agencies,\u201d Nanta\u00a0said during Minister\u2019s Question Time at the Dewan Rakyat here, today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/122e438f3ad794f973121f68c86072275fcf0f49073fa-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"meat cartel\" class=\"wp-image-7237\" width=\"457\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/122e438f3ad794f973121f68c86072275fcf0f49073fa-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/122e438f3ad794f973121f68c86072275fcf0f49073fa-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/122e438f3ad794f973121f68c86072275fcf0f49073fa-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/122e438f3ad794f973121f68c86072275fcf0f49073fa-178x100.jpg 178w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/122e438f3ad794f973121f68c86072275fcf0f49073fa-350x197.jpg 350w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/122e438f3ad794f973121f68c86072275fcf0f49073fa-800x450.jpg 800w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/122e438f3ad794f973121f68c86072275fcf0f49073fa.jpg 1045w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 457px) 100vw, 457px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>He said this in reply to Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PAS-Sik) who wanted to know the development of the investigation and action taken in dealing with the meat cartel which also processes pork in Senai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nanta said the preliminary investigation found no pork at the scene and once the investigation has been&nbsp;completed, the case would be referred to a&nbsp;deputy public prosecutor for further action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe integrated&nbsp;inspection was carried out with other agencies especially officers from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia and the State Islamic Religious Councils.
