KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 12 —\u00a0Malaysia remains in strong solidarity with the people of Palestine and supports concrete and\u00a0honest efforts to find a just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on international law and relevant United Nations resolutions through negotiations involving the parties concerned. Prime Minister\u00a0Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin,\u00a0in his intervention at the 37th\u00a0ASEAN Summit plenary session\u00a0today, said the only viable solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict is through the two-state solution\u00a0\u2013\u00a0based on the pre-1967 borders\u00a0\u2013\u00a0with East Jerusalem as the Capital of Palestine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Prime Minister is\u00a0leading the Malaysian delegation to attend the biannual summit virtually from here (Kuala Lumpur), which runs from today until this Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The summit is chaired by Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in his capacity as ASEAN Chair 2020 under the theme \u201cCohesive and Responsive ASEAN.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his intervention, Muhyiddin also strongly condemns the actions by irresponsible individuals or groups “who cloak themselves in the name of religion to justify their heinous acts of terrorism”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Touching on freedom of speech, the prime minister said although essential to democracy, it is a tool that must be expressed with responsibility, and should not be utilised to justify harm, stoke hatred and propagate Islamophobia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also part of the Malaysian delegation to the 37th ASEAN Summit is Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein as well as Senior Minister and International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ASEAN, established in 1967, comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
