KUALA LUMPUR, July 26\u00a0— Malaysia may go back to square one, to the\u00a0first Movement Control Order (MCO) standard operating procedure (SOP),\u00a0if the majority of Malaysians, especially those\u00a0under\u00a0the mandatory home quarantine order, continue with their irresponsible\u00a0\u2018I don’t care\u2019 attitude. The signs\u00a0are already there, with the rise in the number of positive COVID19 cases in the country, while recently the 14-day mandatory quarantine order at designated stations for those returning to the country from overseas has\u00a0been reactivated since Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Worse still, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement yesterday that Kuching, Sarawak, has been declared a red zone after 41 new cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senior Minister (Security Cluster)\u00a0Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob\u00a0also said yesterday the government had agreed in principle to tighten the SOP of the MCO that was earlier relaxed and is expected to make an announcement on it after the ministerial\u00a0meeting this Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said this was\u00a0no surprise because as many as\u00a02,897 individuals under mandatory home quarantine were found to\u00a0have yet to undergo the COVID19 13-day screening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Statistically, the number of new COVID19 cases\u00a0yesterday increased to 23 from 21 the\u00a0day before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Noor Hisham said this brings the\u00a0cumulative number of cases to 8,884\u00a0and\u00a0the total figure for\u00a0infectivity cases to 167.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two days ago, he said\u00a0Malaysia may see a surge in the number of new COVID19 cases soon if the infectivity rate\u00a0or R-naught (R0) exceeds 1.6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Voicing his worry, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said the current R0 had increased to 1.36 compared to 0.3 during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) which ended on June 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 He said if the R-naught (R0) rises, this means there are many who have been infected. What is dangerous is if the R-naught exceeds 1.6. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
