KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 — Between 10,000 and 15,000 traffic summonses have been\u00a0issued nationwide daily since the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) was implemented on Wednesday, whereby interstate\u00a0movements are allowed.<\/p>\n

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Datuk Azisman Alias said among the most common offenses were speeding and\u00a0beating the traffic lights.<\/p>\n

He said the number\u00a0of traffic summonses issued showed that drivers still had the wrong\u00a0attitude, which needed to be improved.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cSince the start of the RMCO, JSPT has issued between 10,000 and 15,000 traffic summonses daily,\u201d he\u00a0said as a guest on Bernama TV\u2019s Malaysia Petang Ini program titled\u00a0\u2018Perintah Kawalan Pergerakan Pemulihan: Raya atau Waspada\u2019\u00a0(Recovery\u00a0Movement Control Order: Raya or Vigilant) today.<\/p>\n

Azisman said those issued with the traffic summonses would have to pay within the stipulated period and they would be offered a discount for a certain period.<\/p>\n

On JSPT\u2019s preparedness now that interstate movement is allowed, Azisman said JSPT had response teams ready to act quickly to ensure smooth and controlled traffic flows.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIn addition, the JSPT also provides police patrol cars and the Motorcycle Patrol Unit at each rest and service area (R&R)\u00a0so that the JSPT can respond quickly in the event of an emergency or increased traffic on the highways,\u201d\u00a0he said, adding that\u00a0the current traffic flow nationwide was under control.<\/p>\n

Last Sunday, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) would be replaced with the RMCO\u00a0from June 10 to Aug\u00a031.<\/p>\n

The RMCO, among others, allows for interstate movement and group activities such as cycling and motorcycle convoys.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
