KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 – The role of women in politics is not to be taken lightly, given the fact that women play an important role in ensuring the smooth running of Parti Keadilan Nasional machinery and the eventual victory in the polls.<\/p>\n
With the expulsion of Vice President, Zuraida Kamaruddin who was also previously Chief of PKR\u2019s Women\u2019s Wing, observers see the fate of the party Women\u2019s Wing which constitutes about 50% of total party membership lying in the hands of the new Women\u2019s Chief & Deputy, Haniza Talha & Dr Daroyah Alwi.<\/p>\n
The continuing struggle of uplifting the women\u2019s cause was strengthened with the selection of the two during recent party elections. The duo have been consistent in fighting for and defending women\u2019s rights from within the State Council and all the way to international scene.<\/p>\n
PKR\u2019s short sightedness in suspending their Women\u2019s Chief back in April continues to cause internal dispute among grass roots, with justification for the suspension only being due to Haniza\u2019s meeting up with ex party leaders Senior Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and Minister of Housing and Rural Development Zuraida Kamaruddin.<\/p>\n
In recent development, the women\u2019s grass roots continued to be baffled as show cause notice was issued to their Deputy Chief, Dr Daroyah by the upper echelons of the party who have found fault with her firmness and efforts to defend members of the Women\u2019s Wing leadership at all party levels who have had disciplinary action taken against them in the form of expulsion or suspension.<\/p>\n
“Today, PKR is no longer seen as appreciating the contributions and sacrifices made by their female members who have been at the forefront of fighting for the idealogy of justice for all,” says a concerned party member.<\/p>\n
