KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 –\u00a0The case\u00a0involving\u00a0UK-based Goldman Sachs International Ltd and its Asian entities, Goldman Sachs (Asia) LLC and Goldman Sachs (Singapore), which are\u00a0facing charges relating to\u00a0the sale\u00a0of\u00a01Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) bonds amounting to\u00a0RM27.2 billion (US$6.5 billion) has been fixed on June 18.<\/p>\n
Deputy public prosecutor\u00a0Zaki Asyraf Zubir said the\u00a0High Court\u00a0had previously set May 18 for the case management, but it was then postponed to June 18.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe court\u00a0set for case management for the prosecution to serve all documents\u00a0pertaining to the case to the defence under Section 51A of Criminal Procedure Code,\u201d he told Bernama in a WhatsApp message\u00a0when asked on the case.<\/p>\n
On Feb 24, Goldman Sachs through\u00a0its\u00a0representative,\u00a0Ng Keng Leong, pleaded not guilty to the charges before\u00a0Judge\u00a0Mohamed Zaini Mazlan.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0court has fixed\u00a0the hearing to begin on\u00a0Nov 9\u00a0this year.<\/p>\n
In\u00a0December 2018, Malaysia filed four charges against\u00a0the three entities\u00a0for allegedly leaving out material facts on the sales of bonds between a subsidiary of 1MDB and Aabar Investment PJS Ltd (Aabar).<\/p>\n
The offences were allegedly committed at 1MDB,\u00a0Level 8, Menara IMC, No. 8, Jalan Sultan Ismail, here, between March 19,\u00a02012, and\u00a0Nov 11, 2013.<\/p>\n
The company was charged under Section 179 (c) of the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007 and punishable under Section 182 of the same Act\u00a0which provides for imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years and fined not less than RM1 million, upon conviction.<\/p>\n
The United States Department of Justice estimated\u00a0that about $4.5 billion was misappropriated from 1MDB between 2009 and 2014.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
