PUTRAJAYA, May 21\u00a0 – The Ministry of Health (KKM) has detected\u00a0a\u00a0new cluster of COVID-19 cases involving foreigners at the Bukit Jalil Immigration Detention Depot.<\/p>\n

Health director-general\u00a0Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said as at noon today,\u00a0645 people have been screened and tested with 35 positive cases recorded.<\/p>\n

He said\u00a0the positive cases involved 17 Myanmar nationals, 15 foreigners from\u00a0India and one each from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Egypt.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cOf the total number individuals screened,\u00a0400 were confirmed negative while\u00a0210 people are still awaiting results.\u00a0Cause of infections is\u00a0still being investigated.<\/p>\n

\u201cVarious prevention and control activities have been carried out, such as disinfection, providing education on\u00a0personal hygiene as well as social distancing,\u201d he said at the\u00a0daily press conference\u00a0on COVID-19 here today.<\/p>\n

Dr Noor Hisham said MOH had also provided health services at all detention depots\u00a0on a scheduled basis.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cAmong the services provided are\u00a0treatment for minor\u00a0ailments, early emergency treatment\u00a0and health examinations for pregnant women, babies and children which include immunisation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added that\u00a0emergency cases and those\u00a0that required\u00a0inpatient treatment such as mothers who are due to give birth\u00a0would\u00a0be referred to the\u00a0nearby MOH hospital.\u00a0All the services are provided without any charge.<\/p>\n

Dr Noor Hisham said in order to ensure that\u00a0COVID-19 infection cases could be fully detected,\u00a0MOH through District Health Offices would\u00a0continue adopting\u00a0the\u00a0targeted approach.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt includes through investigations, close contact tracing, and risk assessment by the relevant authorities while\u00a0symptomatic screening and sampling will also be carried out to detect cases.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor positive cases, (patients) will be islated and treated at hospitals\u00a0and\u00a0those\u00a0in\u00a0close contact\u00a0with them will be put\u00a0under the monitoring\u00a0and\u00a0observation order, under\u00a0section 15(1) of the\u00a0Prevention\u00a0and\u00a0Control\u00a0of\u00a0Infectious Diseases Act 1988\u00a0(Act 342),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Dr Noor Hisham said MOH would\u00a0continue to cooperate with the Immigration Department, the police and other government agencies, in managing COVID-19 cases involving the\u00a0immigration detention depot cluster.<\/p>\n
