KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 – Members of the public are advised to take precautionary measures in any activity they want to conduct when celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri this weekend, despite certain pursuits\u00a0being\u00a0consented to by\u00a0the authorities.<\/p>\n

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri said\u00a0 it is\u00a0advisable for the public to be careful to avoid any unwanted events in the current situation of the\u00a0country which is\u00a0facing the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

“For example, the issue of visiting graves during Hari Raya. The matter (visiting\u00a0graves) would not be a problem\u00a0if the people complied with the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure), in terms of social distancing with permitted number of people. Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri had also explained,\u00a0it can be done, just not recommended.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“However, it is up to the directives issued by the\u00a0respective states because if the grave visits are not allowed (in some states) they are made with the aim of preventing a\u00a0COVID-19 outbreak,” he told reporters.<\/p>\n

He said this to explain the desirability\u00a0of the Hari Raya visits activity and\u00a0visits to the graves when the nation is facing COVID-19, when met after a ceremony to receive basic essentials for the ‘JAWI Food Bank’ from the Ambassador\u00a0of the People’s Republic of China\u00a0to Malaysia, Bai Tian at the Islamic Centre\u00a0Complex here.<\/p>\n

Commenting further, Dr Zulkifli said if there was anything between ‘prohibition\u00a0and consent’ the communities\u00a0were\u00a0urged to choose\u00a0vigilance as a precautionary measure.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“The same goes with visiting relatives during Hari Raya, although there is a SOP with a stipulated number (of people), but in order to avoid (other) issues from cropping up it is better to stay home,” he said.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Dr Zulkifli received RM200,000 worth of basic necessities donated by the Chinese Embassy to the ‘JAWI Food Bank’ which would\u00a0be distributed among zakat recipients, new converts\u00a0and non-Muslims.<\/p>\n

The donations from the Chinese Embassy were\u00a02,500 packs of basic essentials such as rice, flour, sugar, oil, Raya cookies\u00a0and 6,000 bags of rice.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
