KUALA LUMPUR, May 19\u00a0 – Riza Shahriz Abdul Aziz, the stepson of\u00a0 Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, may be called as a\u00a0prosecution witness in the former prime minister\u2019s trial\u00a0involving RM2.3 billion in 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds.<\/p>\n

Lead prosecutor Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram told High Court Judge\u00a0Collin Lawrence Sequerah that\u00a0Riza has indicated his readiness to give evidence for the prosecution in the case.<\/p>\n

\u201cFollowing this we may have to revise our list of witnesses,\u201d he said on the resumption of Najib\u2019s trial today.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Riza, 43, had been charged with five money-laundering charges involving US$248 million (RM1.25 billion) linked to\u00a01MDB but was granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA)\u00a0by the Sessions Court on May\u00a014.<\/p>\n

The prosecution had applied for Riza to be given\u00a0DNAA after\u00a0an agreement had\u00a0been arrived at between the prosecution and the accused under the terms of which the federal government would receive a substantial sum running into several million ringgit.<\/p>\n

It was a conditional discharge, whereby\u00a0the prosecution had\u00a0the right to reinstate the charges if the agreement was not satisfactorily completed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

At a\u00a0separate\u00a0High Court\u00a0today, the court\u00a0allowed the government to forfeit\u00a0almost RM600,000 in cash belonging to\u00a0Riza\u00a0that\u00a0was seized by the police two years ago.<\/p>\n

Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan made the ruling during a case management\u00a0of the forfeiture application filed by the government\u00a0over the seizure of\u00a0 hundreds of items and cash\u00a0from Najib, his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, their three children and 13 others for being allegedly linked to the 1MDB\u00a0scandal.<\/p>\n

He made the ruling after being informed by deputy public prosecutor\u00a0Faten Hadni Khairuddin on the settlement reached between the prosecution and Riza for the latter\u00a0to be given DNAA.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This was on the agreement that Riza\u00a0agreed to forfeit the money seized by the Malaysian government,\u00a0to\u00a0the Malaysian government.<\/p>\n

The money referred to was\u00a0RM537,000, Pound Sterling 2,700 and Sri Lanka Rupee 2,870,000 seized from the house occupied by Riza,\u00a0Najib and Rosmah on May 17, 2018.<\/p>\n
