KUALA TERENGGANU, May 16\u00a0 – Nine\u00a0family members escaped devastating house fire in\u00a0Kampung Beladau Kolam\u00a0last night with only\u00a0clothes on their backs.<\/p>\n

According to one of the victims, Suliani Sulong, 35, the 9.30 pm fire not only rendered them homeless, it also destroyed their sources of income as family-run\u00a0bakery, sundry shop, eatery and\u00a0chicken processing facility were also housed in the same\u00a0double-story shophouse.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fire started in one of the rooms and noticed by one of\u00a0my brothers. We tried to\u00a0douse the fire before the arrival of the firefighters but failed,\u201d she said when met by reporters late last night.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Meanwhile, Terengganu Fire and Rescue Department Operation\u00a0Division\u00a0assistant director Mohd Basri Kamarazaman said the department received the call at 10 pm and 34 firefighters from Kuala Terengganu, Wakaf Tapai and Kuala Berang fire stations were immediately\u00a0rushed\u00a0to\u00a0the scene.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWhen firefighters\u00a0arrived, the fire was already raging and it took them 20 minutes to put out the fire,\u201d he said, adding that the\u00a0cause\u00a0of the\u00a0fire\u00a0and\u00a0estimated losses were still under investigation.<\/p>\n
