{"id":3586,"date":"2020-04-25T09:33:19","date_gmt":"2020-04-25T01:33:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=3586"},"modified":"2020-04-25T09:33:19","modified_gmt":"2020-04-25T01:33:19","slug":"stranded-malaysians-return-home-from-middle-east-kamarudin-jaffar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=3586","title":{"rendered":"Stranded Malaysians return home from Middle East &#8211; Kamarudin Jaffar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR, April 24\u00a0&#8212; More\u00a0Malaysians safely\u00a0returned home today\u00a0through a repatriation process conducted by the Foreign Ministry, after being stranded in several countries in the Middle East due to lack of flights because of\u00a0the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar\u00a0in a statement today said Malaysians stranded in Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco had arrived safely at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) this afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNinety-one people stranded in Saudi Arabia arrived at KLIA at about 1.05 pm on a\u00a0Malindo Air\u00a0flight. They had previously boarded a Saudia Airlines\u00a0humanitarian flight sent by the Singapore Government to bring back its citizens from Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile\u00a0312 Malaysians stranded in Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco arrived here around 1.40 pm aboard a specially chartered Air Asia X aircraft, passengers from Morocco boarding these flights were flown\u00a0from Morocco to Algeria to participate in the repatriation mission,\u201d\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kamarudin, 17 Indonesians, six Singaporeans, nine Japananese and two Koreans were also allowed to board the aircraft in the spirit of &#8216;ASEAN solidarity&#8217; and all of them were scheduled to take\u00a0 connecting flights to return to their respective countries.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Malaysian government would like to thank all the countries that assisted in making this mission successful.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, the ministry also welcomed the arrival of 371\u00a0Malaysians from Egypt who arrived today at 5.25 am.
