KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 \u2013 PETRONAS employees have donated RM6.4 million\u00a0to the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) under\u00a0a voluntary salary contribution initiative.<\/p>\n
The funds would be used for the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, especially towards the\u00a0distribution of essential supplies and personal protective equipment to frontline staff and volunteers, it said in a statement today.<\/p>\n
President and group chief executive officer, Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin said the initiative received strong support from 9,500 participating staff, commencing with contributions from the PETRONAS senior management\u00a0members who had\u00a0donated\u00a010 per cent of their April and May 2020 salaries.<\/p>\n
“Our success in overcoming this pandemic requires all of us to show courage, compassion and generosity to others.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\u201cWe hope our modest gesture will assist the less fortunate in their hour of need and provide our frontliners with support in fighting COVID-19,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The salary contribution\u00a0was in addition to PETRONAS\u2019 previous\u00a0contributions towards the fight against the pandemic, which were made via its business operating units and subsidiaries in Malaysia as well as throughout the world, bringing the total to\u00a0RM37.8 million<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
