micro businesses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 &#8211;\u00a0Grab will\u00a0add\u00a0five more markets across Selangor to its\u00a0\u2018Pasar by GrabMart\u2019 service in its endeavour\u00a0to empower and ensure that\u00a0small traditional businesses and micro-entrepreneurs\u00a0will not be left behind as the country transitions to a digitised nation.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative, effective April 24,\u00a0follows\u00a0the positive feedback on Pasar by GrabMart, which allows customers to buy fresh produce, spices, poultry, seafood and meat directly from the TTDI Market in\u00a0the comfort of their home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe saw very encouraging results from our measures to protect our merchants, drivers and delivery partners\u2019 livelihood during this financially turbulent time,\u201d said Grab Malaysia country head\u00a0Sean Goh in a statement.<\/p>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12 col-md-12 col-lg-12 mt-4 px-sm-0 px-md-5 px-lg-15 text-dark text-justify\">\n<p>Grab\u2019s Ramadan partnership\u00a0with local governments and organisations will also give it\u00a0a larger stage to accelerate its support for small\u00a0traditional businesses and micro-entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12 col-md-12 col-lg-12 mt-4 px-sm-0 px-md-5 px-lg-15 text-dark text-justify\">\n<p>\u201cWe hope to help them, not only to serve the millions of Grab users, but also to leverage on our platform to serve their regular customers conveniently and efficiently,\u201d said Goh.<\/p>\n<p>Among others, the company has been actively supporting restaurants with immediate cash flow through its zero-interest, \u2018Deferred Commissions\u2019 programme.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12 col-md-12 col-lg-12 mt-4 px-sm-0 px-md-5 px-lg-15 text-dark text-justify\">\n<p>It further\u00a0introduced zero-commissions for self-pickup orders and absorbs\u00a0all related transaction costs for\u00a0orders received via social channels with a GrabPay payment option.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12 col-md-12 col-lg-12 mt-4 px-sm-0 px-md-5 px-lg-15 text-dark text-justify\">\n<p>Goh said almost 8,000 merchants have benefited from Grab\u2019s programmes.<\/p>\n<p>The company also mobilised more than 100,000 GrabCar drivers not only to support the increase in demand for delivery services but also to\u00a0ensure that the latter\u00a0continue to have an income throughout\u00a0the Movement Control Order (MCO) period which has greatly impacted\u00a0the e-hailing business.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12 col-md-12 col-lg-12 mt-4 px-sm-0 px-md-5 px-lg-15 text-dark text-justify\">\n<p>Whilst reducing merchants\u2019 commissions alone may be considered a temporary fix, Goh explained that the majority of commissions actually go to the delivery network as income.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConsidering the circumstances of COVID-19 and MCO, it was imperative for us to adapt and innovate to establish a sustainable economic ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHence, we decided to focus on helping our community of merchants thrive by growing their demand, and in doing so, create income for thousands of delivery partners,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Grab\u2019s Small-Biz Relief programme and &#8216;Local Heroes&#8217; campaign have\u00a0produced encouraging results, with 30 per cent more small, independent restaurants and hawkers embracing the online\u00a0food delivery concept, and an increase of\u00a025 per cent in sales or orders.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;
