<\/p>\nKUALA LUMPUR, April 21 – Three police reports were lodged over the use of a name and logo resembling that of the Malaysian National News Agency\u00a0(BERNAMA) by a social networking site, which\u00a0allegedly aimed at confusing the public with its misleading content.\u00a0A search on the Twitter page this morning shows that the BermanaMY account no longer exist.<\/p>\n

Chairman of Selangor Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Coalition,\u00a0Datuk Nazilah Idris said the reports were lodged as the site was not only using the name of BermanaMY with a logo resembling the official logo of the news agency, but also has been publishing false news by \u2018spinning\u2019 ministers\u2019 statements.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis will cause anxiety and tension among the people that will eventually threaten national security,\u201d she said in a statement after lodging the report at the Shah Alam Police headquarters.<\/p>\n
In the report,\u00a0Nazilah claimed that she stumbled upon a posting with the picture of\u00a0Datuk Seri Rina Harun, who formerly served as Minister of Rural Development, with a forged statement about the food basket aid for the B40 group being rationed once a month.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur search on Google found that the BermanaMY\u00a0account holder\u00a0had been spinning news stories aimed at confusing the public over the past few years,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Last Sunday, the existence of the social networking site using the name of\u00a0BermanaMY went viral as, at a glance,\u00a0it resembles the official account of BERNAMA, but offer\u00a0mostly troll content.<\/p>\n
On Twitter, BERNAMA is using the handle @bernamadotcom, while on Facebook,\u00a0@bernamaofficial, each with the official blue-colour logo of the agency.<\/p>\n
The latest victim of BermanaMY was UMNO President’s Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi daughter Nurul Hidayah Ahmad Hamid.<\/p>\n
