KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 –\u00a0The Quick Response Team (PRP), which monitors suspicious news and allegations, has clarified 205 fake news since its inception<\/a> on March 16.<\/p>\n

Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said the fake news involved matters such as the Movement Control Order (MCO), Bantuan Prihatin National (BPN), Community Welfare Department (JKM) assistance and the COVID-19 pandemic which were topics of discussion\u00a0among the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe focus of PRP is to monitor and clarify suspicious news as well as announcements and to obtain clarification from those involved so as not to cause concern and apprehension among the public,\u201d he\u00a0said in a statement today.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

According to Saifuddin, the PRP, which comprised department and agency officers under the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM)\u00a0in cooperation with the National Security Council (NSC), would continue to function throughout the MCO.<\/p>\n

As such, he asked Malaysians to check before sharing unauthenticated news which could\u00a0be verified on\u00a0Sebenarnya.my (https:\/\/sebenarnya.my\/<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Saifuddin also advised the people to stay at home, regularly wash their hands and distance themselves a metre apart as precautionary measures against\u00a0COVID-19.<\/p>\n

The Quick Response Team is headed by an officer from the KKMM Strategic Communications Division and comprises staff from the ministry and agencies like the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) as well as representatives from the National Security Council (NSC).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
