KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 –\u00a0Submissions at the close of the defence in the murder case of deputy public prosecutor Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais, whose body was found in a barrel filled with concrete five years ago, has been postponed following the government\u2019s decision to extend the\u00a0Movement Control Order (MCO)\u00a0to April 28.<\/p>\n

High Court Judge Datuk Azman Abdullah had\u00a0previously\u00a0set\u00a0April 17 to hear oral\u00a0submissions from both parties.<\/p>\n

Deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin said the court has fixed May 14 for mention.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cOn that day\u00a0(May 14) the court will\u00a0fix a new date for oral submissions,\u201d he said when asked on the new date for\u00a0the case.<\/p>\n

On Nov 20, 2017, Justice Azman\u00a0ordered six men to enter their defence to a\u00a0charge of\u00a0murdering Morais\u00a0after finding that the prosecution had succeeded in establishing a prima facie case against them.<\/p>\n

The accused are pathologist Colonel\u00a0Dr R. Kunaseegaran, 57; and R. Dinishwaran, 28; A.K. Thinesh Kumar, 27; M. Vishwanath, 30; S. Nimalan, 27, all unemployed;\u00a0as well as money lender S. Ravi Chandaran, 49.<\/p>\n

All of them were accused of murdering Morais\u00a0somewhere along Jalan Dutamas Raya Sentul and No. 1, Jalan USJ 1\/6D, Subang Jaya, at between 7am and 8pm on Sept 4, 2015.<\/p>\n

They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same law, and face\u00a0the mandatory death sentence if convicted.<\/p>\n

Kunaseegaran\u00a0was initially charged with abetting the five men in committing the offence at the same place, date and time, but on\u00a0May 15, 2017, the charge was amended to having a common intention with the five\u00a0men in\u00a0the\u00a0murder of Morais.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
