ALOR GAJAH, April 17\u00a0– A man and his girlfriend were sentenced to six months’ jail by the Sessions Court here on two counts of obstructing a\u00a0civil servant\u00a0from discharging his\u00a0duties and violating the directive of the Movement Control Order (MCO) on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Judge Ahmad Sazali Omar imposed the\u00a0sentence\u00a0on Muhammad Haikal Faaiz Ramlan, 25, and Nur Aisyah Zakaria, 19, both unemployed,\u00a0after they pleaded\u00a0guilty to the charges.<\/p>\n
They were sentenced to six months in prison for obstructing\u00a0a public servant, and three months jail.<\/p>\n
The court ordered the couple to undergo\u00a0the\u00a0sentences concurrently from the date of arrest on April 13.<\/p>\n
They\u00a0had obstructed a\u00a0policeman\u00a0from discharging his\u00a0duties\u00a0when both escaped after being asked to stop their\u00a0vehicle and beating\u00a0a traffic light at the intersection of Rumbia, here at 7 pm on April 12.<\/p>\n
Muhammad Haikal Faaiz and Nur Aisyah were charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code,\u00a0read together with\u00a0Section\u00a034 of the same law which provides for a maximum jail term of two years or a maximum fine of RM10,000 or both.<\/p>\n
They were also charged with gathering at a local\u00a0area of infection for the purpose of hanging out at 7.30 pm at\u00a0the same place under\u00a0Regulation 11 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020\u00a0which provides for a fine of not more than RM1,000 or a maximum of six months’ imprisonment or both.<\/p>\n
Muhammad Haikal Faaiz was also sentenced to two years’ jail from the date of arrest and fined RM5,000 in default\u00a0six months’ jail and had his class D driving licence suspended for two years\u00a0beginning today for reckless and dangerous driving which could endanger other road users.<\/p>\n
The man also pleaded guilty to a charge\u00a0of using methamphetamine and the court set May 29 for mention pending a pathology report before sentencing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The offence was allegedly committed during an investigation at the Alor Gajah District Police headquarters at 2.30 pm on April 13.<\/p>\n
