{"id":3290,"date":"2020-04-17T12:29:19","date_gmt":"2020-04-17T04:29:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=3290"},"modified":"2020-04-17T12:29:19","modified_gmt":"2020-04-17T04:29:19","slug":"government-takes-good-care-of-orang-asli-during-mco-tok-batin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=3290","title":{"rendered":"Government takes good care of Orang Asli during MCO &#8211; Tok Batin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ALOR GAJAH, April 16 &#8211; Kampung Orang Asli Bukit Sebang Tok Batin (village head) Ripin Hamid and its residents, here, have expressed gratitude and thanks to the government for effectively taking good care of the community during the Movement Control Order (MCO).<\/p>\n<p>Tok Batin Ripin, 70, said various agencies such as the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), Department of Orang Asli Development\u00a0(JAKOA) and\u00a0state government agencies had\u00a0handed out numerous aid\u00a0comprising daily necessities to help lighten their burdens and those\u00a0of other Orang Asli in the surrounding villages.<\/p>\n<p>The village residents and himself provided for their families by tapping rubber, but\u00a0the MCO\u00a0hampered\u00a0their movements to tap and sell their output, other than the less encouraging prices of the commodity lately, which were bringing\u00a0difficulties to\u00a0their daily lives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever the government is not abandoning us to face it alone, many came to help us. Later, some asked me as Tok Batin if there were\u00a0anything else that we need\u00a0such as milk for children, which will also be given. We are really thankful to the government,\u201d said Tok Batin Ripin, who had three children, to reporters here, today.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier,\u00a0Tok Batin Ripin and\u00a0the residents of the village received essential items from the Musa\u2019adah COVID-19 Fund from JAKIM\u00a0which were\u00a0handed over by the Minister in the\u00a0Prime Minister\u2019s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri.<\/p>\n<p>Another villager, Rogayah Anon, 52, said the contributions\u00a0which were given by the government through numerous agencies especially daily essential items such as rice, sugar, cooking oil and children milk formula\u00a0greatly\u00a0helped the less fortunate like her.<\/p>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12 col-md-12 col-lg-12 mt-4 px-sm-0 px-md-5 px-lg-15 text-dark text-justify\">\n<p>\u201cThe town folk would see the items inside the plastic bag as something ordinary or negligible,\u00a0but they are\u00a0substantial\u00a0to us. I collect\u00a0these items and use them thriftily, so they would last\u00a0especially since\u00a0the fasting month is just round the corner, we cannot afford to waste, must use\u00a0wisely,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>JAKIM\u00a0preacher Md Sabran Sidek said, besides federal government agencies, states agencies such as the Melaka Islamic Religious Council (MAIM) were\u00a0also concerned about\u00a0the Orang Asli community, ensuring they were\u00a0not impacted\u00a0by the MCO and COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey cannot go out to work so the contributions, more or less, would help to ease their burden. MAIM is also giving a monthly aid to them, as well as JAKAO.\u00a0They have sufficient items of need with the contributions provided,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-12 col-md-12 col-lg-12 mt-4 px-sm-0 px-md-5 px-lg-15 text-dark text-justify\">\n<p>He said the contributions from JAKIM\u00a0today, each comprising essential items worth RM50 and RM100 in cash, were\u00a0given to 44 Orang Asli household heads.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile in JOHOR BAHRU, Orang Asli families in\u00a0the district of Kota Tinggi, who were\u00a0affected by the MCO, today received contributions in the form of essential items.<\/p>\n<p>Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Tanjung Sedili maritime zone director Maritime Captain Mohd Zulfadli Nayan said the contributions were\u00a0from the Orang Asli COVID-19 Fund, comprising donations\u00a0from several non-governmental organisations (NGO), namely,\u00a0Impian Malaysia, Centre for Orang Asli Concerns and\u00a0Raleigh International Kuala Lumpur.<\/p>\n<p>Leading Rate Maritime (Laskar Kanan Maritim)\u00a0Corporal\u00a0Nurul Syakila Suzanaliana Saling, who is an Orang Asli, also\u00a0helped to hand over the items in several areas namely\u00a0Kampung Orang Asli Sayong Pinang, Pasir Intan and\u00a0Sungai Selangi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is hoped that the contributions via a MMEA-NGO collaboration will\u00a0help lighten the burden of the Orang Asli who are also impacted during the MCO, which is extended until April 28,\u201d according to\u00a0a statement, here today.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;
