KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 – Deputy Minister of Ministry of Plantation and Commodity Industries (MPIC), Willie Mongin today reminded\u00a0rubber glove industry players to comply with the directives set by the government in their operations.<\/p>\n

Willie revealed that the MPIC has received\u00a0reports against\u00a0two rubber glove operators\u00a0for allegedly violating regulations that could lead to\u00a0environmental pollution.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do not want this to happen again,\u201d he warned, adding the ministry\u2019s eyes would keenly be on the rubber glove sector to make sure\u00a0that\u00a0operators adhere to\u00a0the standard operating procedure set by the ministry.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Meanwhile, he lauded the Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council (MREPC)\u00a0and Smart Glove Corporation Sdn Bhd for their donation of\u00a0500,000 rubber gloves each to the ministry.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt is a tremendous help and timely as our country as well as other\u00a0places in the world\u00a0are currently fighting the COVID-19 pandemic,\u201d he said in a statement today.<\/p>\n

He said the ministry has already identified the relevant government bodies (frontliners) that the protective gear\u00a0would be distributed to.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

MREPC, an agency under the ministry, is\u00a0responsible for promoting domestic rubber products such as\u00a0gloves and catheters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The council collaborates with the Malaysian Rubber Glove Manufacturers Association (MARGMA) to maintain product standard and ensure that Malaysian gloves continue\u00a0to be the world\u2019s top choice.<\/p>\n

Malaysia’s rubber glove exports are\u00a0expected to reach\u00a0225 billion units\u00a0worth over RM20 billion this year alone,\u00a0compared to 170 billion units last year,\u00a0which generated export earnings of RM17.3 billion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Rubber Production Incentive<\/strong><\/h5>\n

In another news, rubber smallholders in Sarawak have been urged to register for their Rubber Transaction Authorisation Permit (PAT-G) card with the state Agriculture Department or any Malaysian Rubber Board (LGM) office to enable them to benefit from the Rubber Production Incentive (IPG).<\/p>\n

Willie in a statement on Tuesday said his ministry welcomes the state government\u2019s proactive move to give the smallholders an additional 50 sen per kg, bringing the total incentive to RM1.90 per\u00a0kg.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis initiative will definitely help ease the burden of\u00a0rubber smallholders in Sarawak and increase their incomes,\u201d he said, noting it also shows the seriousness of both the Sarawak and federal governments\u00a0in safeguarding the wellbeing of the people.<\/p>\n

He added that enquiries may be made via the LGM hotline at 1-800-888-474 from 9am to 5pm Mondays to Fridays, or via 019-602 6001 and 019-625 7800 after 5pm.<\/p>\n
