<\/p>\nKUALA LUMPUR, April 16 — A total of 354 Malaysians who are stranded in\u00a0Turkey are scheduled to depart for home tonight and expected to arrive here at\u00a010.20 am tomorrow, says Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Foreign Minister said this followed a\u00a0special approval of the Turkish government for a flight from Malaysia to land\u00a0in Istanbul and bring\u00a0back the stranded Malaysians and those facing difficulty\u00a0in Turkey.<\/p>\n

“They comprise tourists or short-term visitors and other\u00a0Malaysians affected by restrictions\u00a0imposed by the Turkish authorities to control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said today at a special media conference here on the latest developments of Malaysians overseas.<\/p>\n
On Malaysian students abroad, Kamarudin urged them to obey the advice issued by Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to stay put where they are.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn this regard, Wisma Putra also urges\u00a0Malaysian students abroad to follow this advice. Parents and students are asked to stay calm and\u00a0not panic;\u00a0take care of their health and to stay in touch with their Malaysian representatives where they study abroad,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Kamarudin also said the Malaysian government had agreed to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina who were severely affected by the lack of equipment and medicine in the face of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\u201cThe contribution\u00a0was sent via a special Air Asia\u00a0flight which landed safely in Sarajevo at 10.30 pm local time yesterday.<\/p>\n
“The government\u00a0of Bosnia and Herzegovina expressed its\u00a0appreciation for the\u00a0relief aid\u00a0and\u00a0agreed to donate anti-malaria drugs to help Malaysia address COVID-19,” he said.<\/p>\n
Kamarudin added that the Montenegro government as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina have also helped\u00a0Wisma Putra to bring back eight Malaysians stranded in Montenegro.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\u201cGod willing they will arrive in Malaysia on Friday at 10.20 am. We pray that everything goes well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Kamarudin said on the basis of close ties between Malaysia and Palestine, the Foreign Ministry in collaboration with the relevant agencies is coordinating assistance or donations to be sent to Palestinians affected by COVID-19.<\/p>\n
Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar has been playing a lead role in bringing home Malaysians stranded overseas during this COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n
