KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 — The distribution of 1.7 million free face masks to households in the city, including temporary shelters for the homeless, has started.<\/p>\n

Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan told Bernama that the masks had been\u00a0distributed to four public housing zones and 366 residents\u2019 associations through Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) branches in the\u00a011 parliamentary constituencies since April 10.<\/p>\n

On April 8, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said some\u00a024.62 million face masks would be\u00a0distributed to the people\u00a0nationwide for free.<\/p>\n

Ismail Sabri, who is also Defence Minister, said each household will receive four pieces.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0chairman of Damai Bakti residents Association in Cheras, Zariffuddin Othman, 61, today distributed\u00a0face masks to 210 housing units in the area.<\/p>\n

“On Sunday evening, I received a call from DBKL Bandar Tun Razak branch asking about the total number of houses\u00a0in my area, and yesterday I went to the branch to collect 16 boxes of face masks.<\/p>\n

“I packed the face masks in plastic bags with four pieces each and gave them to several representatives in Damai Bakti for distribution to\u00a0the residents,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Zariffuddin said he and the representatives practised social distancing and used hand sanitisers when distributing the masks.<\/p>\n

Many Malaysians have\u00a0expressed their gratitude to the government for giving them free face masks, which have been in high demand since the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“Even though only four pieces of face masks were distributed, the people are happy because it was a meaningful gift during the pandemic.<\/p>\n

“There were a\u00a0few people who declined the masks as\u00a0they have enough stocks and asked us to give them to others who need them,\u201d\u00a0Zariffuddin said.<\/p>\n

Free face masks well-received by the public<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Many have\u00a0taken to social media to share photographs of the face masks that they had received\u00a0while expressing\u00a0their thanks to\u00a0the government.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you Malaysian government\u2026directly delivered to my house\u2026,\u201d said a Facebook user\u00a0Fiena Ramli.<\/p>\n

Pokle Abraham through his Facebook posting\u00a0said: \u201cYeaa received face masks from the government #stayhome\u201d.<\/p>\n

Ramly Nadzirah in a Facebook posting shared that he had received the masks which were placed in his letter box.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlhamdulillah, we received the masks\u00a0today, placed in my letter box. Have you guys received it? Thank you Malaysian government,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

Another Facebook user\u00a0Taufiq Yusof posted \u201cThank you\u2026a \u2018brother\u2019 riding a motorcycle distributed\u00a0the masks from one home to another…on a hot sunny day…thank you, may he always be blessed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
