I thank and commend Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” the Sultan said in a statement issued today.

Sultan Sharafuddin noted that the successful completion of the Shah Alam Line LRT3, which overcame a variety of hurdles along the way, stands to greatly benefit the residents of Selangor, particularly those commuting within Shah Alam, Klang, and the surrounding areas.

According to His Royal Highness, the original concept for the LRT3 project was born directly from public complaints, notably from housewives who frequently recounted the daily difficulties their husbands faced trying to return home on time due to severe, crippling traffic congestion.

The Sultan also extended his appreciation to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for answering his initial call to establish a dedicated rail link connecting Klang, Shah Alam, and Kuala Lumpur.

His Royal Highness recalled that Klang had only two bridges crossing the Klang River at the time, which severely exacerbated peak-hour bottlenecks. This reality prompted Najib’s administration to abolish the Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau toll plazas in 2018 as an immediate measure of traffic relief.

Project Setbacks, Reductions, and Ultimate Purpose

Sultan Sharafuddin shared that the LRT3 project suffered a delay of more than 18 months following the change of federal administration in 2018, which was then followed by a further 19-month setback brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic up until 2021. During that turbulent period, station footprints were downsized, the number of train coaches was scaled back, and five of the planned stations along the alignment were dropped entirely.

The Sultan firmly emphasized that the LRT3 was never intended to be a mega project built for prestige, but was always envisioned as a necessary infrastructure initiative dedicated entirely to protecting the interests and well-being of the public.

Sultan Sharafuddin expressed optimism that the newly opened line will meaningfully alleviate traffic congestion while offering a faster, safer, and far more comfortable transport alternative for those moving between Klang, Shah Alam, and Kuala Lumpur. His Royal Highness also voiced his hope that Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) will enforce strict, continuous maintenance of the line to guarantee that daily services remain smooth and efficient.

A Shared Achievement Across Administrations

At the same time, the Sultan strongly emphasized that the successful realization of the LRT3 should not be credited to any single individual, political entity, or party.

“I do not want anyone to claim that the successful implementation of the LRT3 is solely the result of their efforts. In reality, this project is the product of continuity in planning, commitment and cooperation across several administrations for the benefit of the people of Selangor,” Sultan Sharafuddin said.

His Royal Highness concluded by expressing his hope that the LRT3 will act as a catalyst for local economic development, elevate the daily quality of life for citizens, and solidify transportation connectivity between Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, and Klang as core hubs of national growth.

-NMT

SHAH ALAM, July 1 — The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has expressed…

[524
10953,451
post-18332","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nation","tag-lrt3","tag-najib-razak
https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Sultan-Selangor-LRT3-e1782905426866.png",529,358,false
https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Sultan-Selangor-LRT3-e1782905426866-150x150.png",150,150,true
https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Sultan-Selangor-LRT3-e1782905426866-300x203.png",300,203,true
https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Sultan-Selangor-LRT3-e1782905426866.png",529,358,false
https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Sultan-Selangor-LRT3-e1782905426866.png",529,358,false],"1536x1536":["https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Sultan-Selangor-LRT3-e1782905426866.png",529,358,false],"2048x2048":["https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Sultan-Selangor-LRT3-e1782905426866.png",529,358,false
https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Sultan-Selangor-LRT3-e1782905426866.png",529,358,false
https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Sultan-Selangor-LRT3-e1782905426866.png",529,358,false
https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Sultan-Selangor-LRT3-529x475.png",529,475,true
Editor
["GET
