He noted that while he and Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah were in court, Datuk Che Ruzima was absent on sick leave for today and tomorrow, adding that it would not be proper to hand down a judgment without all members present.

Abu Bakar explained that the court was notified of Che Ruzima’s condition late yesterday evening. While the panel could have instructed the registry to notify the involved parties at the time, Abu Bakar felt the late hour made it inappropriate. Consequently, he took the bench today to personally inform attendees of the new July 13 date.

Today’s brief proceedings were attended by deputy public prosecutors Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin, Datuk Ahmad Akram Gharib, and Farah Ezlin Yusop Khan. Syed Saddiq was represented by defense lawyers Datuk Hisyam Teh Poh Teik, Datuk S. Ambiga, and Lim Wei Jeit.

The apex court’s upcoming ruling follows a June 25, 2025 decision by the Court of Appeal, which acquitted and discharged the 33-year-old Muar MP of four charges involving Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda (Armada) funds. Those charges included abetting criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property, and money laundering.

The Court of Appeal’s decision had effectively overturned a November 9, 2023 High Court ruling, which originally convicted Syed Saddiq and sentenced him to seven years’ imprisonment, two strokes of the cane, and a RM10 million fine. The Attorney General’s Chambers filed its final appeal to the Federal Court a day after the acquittal was issued.

PUTRAJAYA, June 30 — The Federal Court today postponed its decision on the prosecution’s final…

[10893
10930,1995
post-18273","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-courts","tag-muar","tag-syed-saddiq
https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/syed-saddiq.png",717,547,false
https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/syed-saddiq-150x150.png",150,150,true
https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/syed-saddiq-300x229.png",300,229,true
https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/syed-saddiq.png",640,488,false
https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/syed-saddiq.png",640,488,false],"1536x1536":["https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/syed-saddiq.png",717,547,false],"2048x2048":["https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/syed-saddiq.png",717,547,false
https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/syed-saddiq.png",717,547,false
https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/syed-saddiq.png",717,547,false
https://newmalaysiatimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/syed-saddiq-717x475.png",717,475,true
Editor
["GET
