JOHOR BAHRU, June 28 –\u00a0Despite a successful nomination process across all 56 state seats and robust grassroots support, Barisan Nasional (BN) is positioning itself as the underdog in the upcoming 16th Johor state election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who is contesting the Machap seat under the BN banner, emphasized that the coalition is not taking the electoral contest for granted. He noted that the coalition is committed to intensifying its outreach to connect with as many voters as possible before polling day on July 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Because we are not the federal government, we consider ourselves the underdogs. We will work hard to meet as many ‘Bangsa Johor’ as we can,” Onn Hafiz told reporters during a walkabout at Flat Saujana today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reflecting on the campaign\u2019s progress, Onn Hafiz noted that the reception towards BN candidates has been encouraging and expressed optimism that this positive momentum would carry through to the polls. He also appealed for a peaceful campaign period to ensure the state\u2019s political stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“That is the Johor way. We want to preserve harmony so that democracy can continue to flourish in the state,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Central to BN\u2019s campaign is a manifesto launched on June 26, which outlines 63 pledges aimed at building upon existing state-led initiatives. According to Onn Hafiz, these commitments focus on core pillars such as housing agendas, youth development programs, and the \u2018Kasih Johor\u2019 assistance scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Looking ahead, the Menteri Besar highlighted plans to expand community engagement programs, such as introducing the \u2018Semarak Isyak\u2019 initiative should the coalition be granted a fresh mandate. This would complement the existing \u2018Semarak Subuh\u2019 program, further reinforcing the current government\u2019s policy trajectory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
