KUALA LUMPUR \u2013 The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has announced that 70 witnesses, including the pathologist who performed the post-mortem, will be called to testify at the inquest into the death of 13-year-old student Zara Qairina Mahathir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement today, the AGC confirmed that preparations are underway, with documents being compiled and handed over to lawyers representing interested parties in the proceedings. The pathologist is considered a key witness, whose testimony will be crucial in determining the cause of death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The inquest will involve several interested parties and watching briefs permitted by the Coroner’s Court. These include Zara Qairina’s mother, represented by various law firms, as well as several child interested parties and the Sabah Law Society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The AGC stated its commitment to ensuring the proceedings run smoothly “so that justice can be upheld, adhering to the principle that justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The AGC also acknowledged a planned “No Justice No Merdeka” gathering in Sabah this weekend related to the case. The public prosecutor has already filed an application with the Kota Kinabalu Coroner\u2019s Court to hold an inquest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The inquest is scheduled to be held on September 3-4, 8-12, 17-19, and 22-30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zara Qairina passed away on July 17 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu. She was admitted after being found unconscious in a drain near her school hostel in Papar the day before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
