KOTA KINABALU, July 27 (Bernama) — Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has confirmed that an electoral pact will be formed between GRS and Pakatan Harapan (PH) for the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Chief Minister said the matter had been discussed among GRS component parties, and a consensus was reached to establish an electoral arrangement with PH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hajiji, who is also Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) president, said the move reflects the ongoing cooperation between GRS and PH within the current state administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOf course, we are ready, but (the electoral pact formula) is not yet finalised. There are still a few matters to iron out,\u201d he told reporters after officiating the Gagasan Rakyat Annual General Meeting 2025 here today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Sabah PH deputy chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud expressed his appreciation to the Chief Minister for upholding the spirit of cooperation between the two coalitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s good news for Sabah,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mustapha said the next step would involve negotiations on seat allocation and expressed hope that the process would be carried out fairly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Asked how many seats Sabah PH is eyeing in the upcoming state polls, Mustapha said the coalition is targeting between 23 and 25 seats, subject to the outcome of negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The current five-year term of the 16th Sabah state assembly will expire automatically on Nov 11, paving the way for the 17th Sabah State Election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, when delivering his presidential policy speech, Hajiji expressed confidence that GRS would once again be chosen by the people in the upcoming state polls, based on the achievements recorded over the past five years of its administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur development plans were not mere slogans, but have delivered tangible results, including positive economic growth for the state. To sustain this momentum, we need a strong mandate from the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI believe the people are wise enough to choose the best party to lead the government in the coming election. Insya-Allah, all planned developments can be continued and realised to ensure continuity in governance and sustained success,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The gathering was attended by over 10,000 delegates from 74 divisions, including Labuan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
