{"id":16961,"date":"2023-09-22T19:11:24","date_gmt":"2023-09-22T11:11:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=16961"},"modified":"2023-09-22T19:20:06","modified_gmt":"2023-09-22T11:20:06","slug":"nomination-for-pelangai-by-election-tomorrow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=16961","title":{"rendered":"NOMINATION FOR PELANGAI BY-ELECTION TOMORROW"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>BENTONG, Sept 22&nbsp;(Bernama) &#8212;&nbsp;The Pelangai state&nbsp;by-election will begin tomorrow&nbsp;with the nomination process at the Felda Kemasul Public&nbsp;Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Potential&nbsp;candidates will be&nbsp;given an hour from 9 to 10 am to submit their nomination papers, before the list of eligible candidates is announced by the returning officer at the nomination centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Pahang Election Commission (EC),&nbsp;seven sets of nomination forms have been&nbsp;sold as of Sept 18, namely three sets each bought by representatives of UMNO and Perikatan Nasional (PN) and one set by an organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Barisan Nasional (BN) and PN each announced experienced candidates, with both having contested in the last 15th General Election (GE15).<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/BN-Pelangai.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16962\" style=\"width:480px;height:329px\" width=\"480\" height=\"329\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/BN-Pelangai.jpeg 350w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/BN-Pelangai-300x206.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Datuk Amizar Abu Adam (left)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>BN is betting on&nbsp;Bentong UMNO Committee member Datuk Amizar Abu Adam, 50, who is a native of Felda Chemomoi located in the Pelangai state constituency,&nbsp;to defend the party&#8217;s stronghold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PN&nbsp;has once again chosen Bentong PAS vice-president Kasim Samat as its candidate for the Pelangai&nbsp;by-election.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/PN-pelangai.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16963\" style=\"width:367px;height:367px\" width=\"367\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/PN-pelangai.jpg 225w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/PN-pelangai-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 367px) 100vw, 367px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Kasim, 63, had contested the Pelangai state seat during GE15&nbsp;and lost to BN\u2019s Datuk Seri Johari Harun with a majority of&nbsp;4,048 votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pertubuhan Suara Anak Pahang president Haslihelmy DM Zulhasli, 36, has&nbsp;expressed his intention to contest in Pelangai as an independent candidate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pelangai by-election, which will take place on Oct 7, is held following Johari\u2019s death in a plane crash in Shah Alam, Selangor on Aug 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A total of 16,456 voters are eligible to cast their ballots&nbsp;in the by-election, including 36 policemen and three absentee voters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212;
