Kuala Lumpur, April 16<\/strong> — Areas in Kuala Lumpur, Kelantan and Johor recorded unhealthy air quality as of 4pm today. Cheras in Kuala Lumpur recorded an Air Pollutant Index (API) of 106, while Kota Bharu and Tanah Merah, Kelantan, recorded an API level of 107 and 104 respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the API management system website, Segamat in Johor recorded an unhealthy reading of 152.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An API of zero to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100 moderate; 101 to 200 unhealthy; 201 to 300 very unhealthy and 300 and above hazardous.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Sekijang MP Dr Zaliha Mustafa, who is also health minister, said visibility was less than 200m, with the buildings almost covered by the haze in her constituency.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cFor the past few days, we have heard the news that the country has been affected by the haze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOne of the areas badly affected is my constituency, which is Sekijang, a town in Segamat,\u201d she said through a video uploaded on TikTok today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said the area recorded an unhealthy API level of 145 to 150 yesterday and advised people in the area to be cautious of outdoor activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zaliha said haze consists of smoke and dust particles that can be risky if excessively inhaled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHaze is not good for health and can cause eye inflammation, an itchy nose, sore throat, cough, flu and itchy skin,\u201d she said, adding that long-term exposure could result in cardiovascular diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zaliha also reminded people, especially children with asthma, to stay home during the haze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
