Bank Negara Malaysia\u2019s (BNM) international reserves amounted to\u00a0US$114.3 billion (US$1=RM4.47) as at Feb 28, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The international reserves position is sufficient to finance 5.0 months of imports of goods and services and is 1.0 time of the total short-term external debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement today, the central bank said\u00a0the main components of the international reserves were foreign currency reserves (US$102.2\u00a0billion), International Monetary Fund reserves position (US$1.4 billion), Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) (US$5.7 billion), gold (US$2.3 billion) and other reserve assets (US$2.7 billion).<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2022-11-03-at-5.16.05-PM-1024x630.png\" alt=\"international reserves\" class=\"wp-image-15413\" width=\"510\" height=\"313\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2022-11-03-at-5.16.05-PM-1024x630.png 1024w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2022-11-03-at-5.16.05-PM-300x185.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2022-11-03-at-5.16.05-PM-768x473.png 768w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2022-11-03-at-5.16.05-PM-162x100.png 162w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2022-11-03-at-5.16.05-PM-350x215.png 350w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2022-11-03-at-5.16.05-PM-800x493.png 800w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Screenshot-2022-11-03-at-5.16.05-PM.png 1176w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, total assets stood at RM614.91&nbsp;billion, comprising gold and foreign exchange and other reserves, including SDRs (RM501.63 billion), Malaysian government papers (RM12.82 billion), deposits with financial institutions (RM1.06 billion), loans and advances (RM23.71 billion), land and buildings (RM4.14 billion) and other assets (RM71.56 billion).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BNM added that capital and liabilities comprised&nbsp;paid-up capital (RM100 million), reserves (RM155.52 billion), currency in circulation (RM159.54 billion), deposits by financial institutions (RM213.18 billion), federal government deposits (RM10.02 billion), other deposits (RM37.45 billion), Bank Negara papers (RM6.7&nbsp;billion), allocation of SDRs (RM28.21 billion) and other liabilities (RM4.17 billion).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/\">NMT<\/a> as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bernama.com\/en\/business\/news.php?id=2170801\">Bernama<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR, March 7 &#8212;
