KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 1<\/strong> —\u00a0The Road Transport Department (RTD) has reminded\u00a0the public to be mindful of an advertisement\u00a0on social media which offers\u00a0driving licences without having to attend\u00a0classes and tests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

RTD director-general Datuk Zailani Hashim said the department had detected the advertisement, which also used the photo of a China doll as the profile picture to attract the attention of social media users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis syndicate makes a profit by deceiving the victims and disappears after they receive the money.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe advertisement is misleading the people that they can get a licence without attending a driving school. There is nothing of the sort,\u201d<\/em> he told a press conference after the\u00a0New Year\u2019s Eve integrated operation at the Gombak Toll Plaza early this morning.<\/p>\n\n\n

Elaborating, Zailani said RTD would work with the Communications and Digital Ministry and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to track down the syndicate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe syndicate\u00a0has\u00a0realised that the authorities are monitoring them, so they often change their links every four to six months.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will\u00a0find the individuals responsible for deceiving social media users with this tactic and hand them to the police for further action,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Zailani said 3,481 summonses were issued for various traffic offences during the integrated operation, which was held simultaneously throughout the country from 9 pm to midnight last night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that a total of 12,234 vehicles were inspected in the operation, which focuses on driving licences, road tax, insurance and cloned vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe also confiscated 69 vehicles consisting of 56 motorcycles, 12 cars and one other vehicle as of midnight last night,\u201d<\/em> he said, adding that over 200 enforcement officers were involved in the operation, including from the police, Immigration Department, National Anti-Drugs Agency and Environment Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
