SEREMBAN, Dec 2<\/strong> —\u00a0The landslide area at Jalan Bukit Berlian 5, Taman Bukit Berlian, Lobak near here has been declared a disaster site, said Negeri Sembilan Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Razali Ab Malik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the slope along the stretch collapsed following the unusual flow of water as a result of continuous rain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Razali said an initial investigation by the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) found that there was still soil movement in the area which was at high risk of causing larger collapses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs at 12 pm yesterday, the cracks\u00a0on the road have become more significant, namely from a few inches to about\u00a0two feet.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cChecks\u00a0at the scene at 8 pm yesterday showed that\u00a0the cracks have widened,\u201d<\/em> he said\u00a0in a statement here today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Razali said the landslide which occurred at 4 am yesterday had resulted in three cars falling down the slope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, he said there were no casualties reported in the incident which had affected 47 families and 12 houses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBased on the preliminary assessment conducted by the JBPM, 12 houses in the area are\u00a0unsafe to occupy.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAll the affected residents have\u00a0agreed to evacuate their homes until the slope repair work is completed to avoid any casualties,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
