{"id":15509,"date":"2022-11-13T21:58:55","date_gmt":"2022-11-13T13:58:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=15509"},"modified":"2022-11-14T10:16:21","modified_gmt":"2022-11-14T02:16:21","slug":"real-leaders-dont-hurl-personal-attacks-saifuddin-hits-back-at-anwar-rafizi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=15509","title":{"rendered":"Real leaders don\u2019t hurl personal attacks, Saifuddin hits back at Anwar, Rafizi"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Indera Mahkota, Nov 1<\/strong>4 &#8212; Caretaker Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah today hit back at PKR president Anwar Ibrahim\u2019s and his deputy Rafizi Ramli over their speeches urging voters in his constituency to turn their backs on him, lambasting the duo for their <em>\u201ccheap tricks\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cWhen Rafizi and Anwar came here (Indera Mahkota), they used the opportunity to attack me,\u201d<\/em> he told reporters when met on the sidelines of his campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201c(Bersatu president and Perikatan Nasional chairman) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has also shown up here, but he didn\u2019t attack any other GE15 (15th general election) candidates.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201c(This goes to show that) real leaders don\u2019t throw personal attacks. Instead, they speak on (their) policies and manifestoes.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saifuddin, who is defending the Indera Mahkota seat as a PN candidate for GE15, added that he has taken PH\u2019s attacks in his stride.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Saifuddin-Abdullah-PN-bernama.webp\" alt=\"saifuddin\" class=\"wp-image-15515\" width=\"549\" height=\"343\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Saifuddin-Abdullah-PN-bernama.webp 800w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Saifuddin-Abdullah-PN-bernama-300x188.webp 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Saifuddin-Abdullah-PN-bernama-768x480.webp 768w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Saifuddin-Abdullah-PN-bernama-160x100.webp 160w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Saifuddin-Abdullah-PN-bernama-350x219.webp 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 549px) 100vw, 549px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cMy conclusion is that they (PH) cannot find candidates good enough to run against me, so the big guns have to come down.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, Saifuddin accused Anwar of engaging in nepotistic practices, despite apparently taking the <em>\u201cmoral high ground of a reformist\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cRegardless of what (Anwar) says about me, he has to evaluate himself first.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cHe always speaks about reform and (claims to be) against nepotism but the interesting thing (about Anwar) is that he himself is an example of nepotism,\u201d<\/em> he said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He explained his assertion by pointing out that as PH president, Anwar had put his signature down on dotted lines confirming his family members\u2019 participation in the looming national polls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cHe signed the candidacy letters for his wife (Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail) and daughter (Nurul Izzah Anwar) to contest in GE15.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cHe (Anwar) should look in the mirror before saying anything about me,\u201d<\/em> he said, referencing the political maneuvering in Kajang and Port Dickson to allude that this is not the first instance of Anwar dabbling in nepotism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Kajang Move took place in 2014 during the late Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim\u2019s tenure as Selangor menteri besar. At the time, PKR attempted to replace Khalid with Anwar who ran for the Kajang state assembly seat that was vacated for this purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, Anwar was disqualified from the Kajang election due to a court case and was subsequently replaced by his wife Dr Wan Azizah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shortly after the 2018 general election, the Port Dickson Move was triggered when then-Port Dickson MP Datuk Daniyal Balagopal Abdullah vacated the seat to make way for Anwar\u2019s return to politics, following his release from prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Besides that, Saifuddin revealed that the three other contestants for the Indera Mahkota federal seat had declined to take part in a public debate planned by a non-government organisation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cIt is regretful that my opponents do not want to come down for a debate (since debates allow) voters a chance to analyse candidates while bringing political discourse to a higher level.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Indera Mahkota parliamentary seat will see a four-cornered fight for GE15, with Saifuddin going against Barisan Nasional\u2019s Quek Tai Seong, PH\u2019s Zuraidi Ismail, and Pejuang\u2019s Mohamad Nor Sundari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Malaysians will head to the polling stations on November 19, with early voting set for November 15<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/\">NMT<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Indera Mahkota, Nov 14 &#8212;
