IPOH,\u00a0Nov 5<\/strong> — PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is in\u00a0a four-cornered fight\u00a0for the Tambun parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anwar, who is Pakatan Harapan\u2019s (PH) prime minister candidate, faces Tambun UMNO division chief Datuk Aminuddin Md. Hanafiah, who is contesting as Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate; Abdul Rahim Tahir of Pejuang and incumbent Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu of Perikatan Nasional (PN).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anwar arrived at the nomination centre\u00a0at Dewan Sri Kledang,\u00a0Ipoh Industrial Training Institute (ILP) in Meru\u00a0at 8.58 am while Aminuddin and Ahmad Faizal arrived at 8.50 am and 9 am respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n

At 10.35 am, Tambun returning officer Datuk Mohamad Fariz Mohamad Hanip announced the candidates for the Tambun parliamentary seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The nomination process was incident-free, with the police providing tight security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In GE14, Ahmad Faizal, who contested under PH ticket, polled 38,661 votes to beat two other candidates from BN and PAS to win with a majority of 5,320 votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to reporters later, Anwar said he was ready to offer the reform agenda for the well-being of the people of Tambun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We’re here to offer an alternative for economic programmes and policies,\u00a0and I think that gives us an added advantage,”<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahmad Faizal said his campaign would focus on drawing the support of young voters in the constituency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abdul Rahim said he would try to win the favour of these young voters and spread the importance of carrying out their responsibilities as voters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the two state seats under the constituency, namely Manjoi and Ulu Kinta, will see a three-cornered fight involving PH, PN and BN, and four-cornered fight among PH, PN, BN and Independent respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
