{"id":15360,"date":"2022-10-29T20:09:50","date_gmt":"2022-10-29T12:09:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=15360"},"modified":"2022-10-29T20:09:52","modified_gmt":"2022-10-29T12:09:52","slug":"malaysia-reiterates-call-for-a-clear-end-game-in-myanmar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=15360","title":{"rendered":"Malaysia reiterates call for a clear end game in Myanmar"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>PUTRAJAYA, Oct 29<\/strong> &#8212; Malaysia reiterated its call for ASEAN member states to work on a framework\u00a0that has a clear endgame to facilitate the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus (5PC)\u00a0to bring back democracy and peace in the junta held Myanmar.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Malaysian foreign minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah said the matter was highlighted during the Special Meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers held in Jakarta, Indonesia on Thursday\u00a0to discuss the way forward on ASEAN&#8217;s efforts to address the\u00a0situation in Myanmar, namely with regard to the implementation of the 5PC.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;In this Special Meeting, Malaysia reiterated its position that ASEAN needs to have a&nbsp;framework to facilitate the implementation of the 5PC&nbsp;with a clear&nbsp;endgame for a Myanmar that is democratic, inclusive and just, peaceful and&nbsp;harmonious, as well as prosperous where civil and political rights are guaranteed by&nbsp;the Constitution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;A transition plan would be required for this Framework. Malaysia also\u00a0re-emphasised that aside from the ASEAN Summits, no political representative from\u00a0Myanmar should be invited to any ASEAN Ministerial Meeting,&#8221;<\/em> he said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/saifuddin-abdullah-2_941417_20200205215745.jpg\" alt=\"myanmar\" class=\"wp-image-14805\" width=\"636\" height=\"388\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/saifuddin-abdullah-2_941417_20200205215745.jpg 708w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/saifuddin-abdullah-2_941417_20200205215745-300x183.jpg 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/saifuddin-abdullah-2_941417_20200205215745-164x100.jpg 164w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/saifuddin-abdullah-2_941417_20200205215745-350x214.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Deputy Secretary-General for&nbsp;Bilateral Affairs of the Malaysian Foreign Ministry, Norman Mohamad represented Saifuddin at the special meeting.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saifuddin said that towards encouraging constructive dialogue among all parties concerned, Malaysia&nbsp;proposed for ASEAN to engage the National Unity Government (NUG), National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) and other stakeholders.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To improve humanitarian efforts, Malaysia recommended ASEAN to consider the&nbsp;Inclusive Humanitarian Donor Forum proposed by the NUG to support ASEAN\u2019s&nbsp;efforts on humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;In addition, Malaysia suggested for ASEAN to\u00a0review the current cooperation with the Myanmar Humanitarian Task Force to include\u00a0cooperation with local, international and UN bodies, non governmental and civil society organisations,&#8221;<\/em> he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the special meeting agreed to study various proposal made during the meeting where&nbsp;recommendations will be submitted for the consideration of the ASEAN Leaders at the 40th and 41st ASEAN&nbsp;Summits, scheduled on Nov 11&nbsp;in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/\">NMT<\/a> as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bernama.com\/en\/news.php?id=2133274\">Bernama<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PUTRAJAYA, Oct 29 &#8212;
