KOTA KINABALU, Oct 2 <\/strong>—\u00a0Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob should seek the views of the Cabinet regarding the dissolution of Parliament\u00a0for the 15th general election (GE15)\u00a0to be held,\u00a0said Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Home Minister said this was because the country\u2019s current political and administrative situation differed from the time when Barisan Nasional (BN) was the dominant party in the government. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Constitution states that the Prime Minister can advise the\u00a0Yang di-Pertuan Agong\u00a0to dissolve (Parliament) after discussing the matter with Cabinet ministers, but some quarters are saying there is no need for that because it was not like that before.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cIt was not done previously because (the government) was dominated by one party, Barisan Nasional, but now there are many (parties) in the government, and so the Cabinet\u2019s views must be sought as this is stipulated in the Constitution,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hamzah was speaking to reporters after the closing ceremony of the Sabah zone \u2018Kita Demi Negara\u2019 programme here today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UMNO Supreme Council which met on Friday decided that GE15 should be held this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

UMNO secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said that based on that decision, the Prime Minister will present the proposed date of the dissolution (of Parliament) to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in line with Article 40 (1) of the Federal Constitution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
