{"id":14928,"date":"2022-09-19T11:03:50","date_gmt":"2022-09-19T03:03:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=14928"},"modified":"2022-09-19T11:03:51","modified_gmt":"2022-09-19T03:03:51","slug":"bursa-malaysia-opens-lower-as-investors-remain-cautious","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=14928","title":{"rendered":"Bursa Malaysia opens lower as investors remain cautious"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19<\/strong>\u00a0 &#8212;\u00a0Bursa Malaysia resumed on a low note today after the long Malaysia Day weekend, as investors remained cautious following further losses on Wall Street on Friday due to persistent concerns over the United States (US) Federal Reserve&#8217;s rate hike, a dealer said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At 9.15&nbsp;am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell&nbsp;by 14.50&nbsp;points to 1,452.81&nbsp;from Thursday&#8217;s close of 1,467.31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The benchmark index opened 7.80&nbsp;points lower&nbsp;at 1,459.51.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the broader market, losers outpaced gainers 347&nbsp;to 102, while 256&nbsp;counters were unchanged, 1,668&nbsp;untraded and 17&nbsp;others suspended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Turnover stood at 250.12\u00a0million units worth RM178.96\u00a0million.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Screenshot-2022-09-19-at-10.55.57-AM-1024x639.png\" alt=\"investors\" class=\"wp-image-14929\" width=\"527\" height=\"329\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Screenshot-2022-09-19-at-10.55.57-AM-1024x639.png 1024w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Screenshot-2022-09-19-at-10.55.57-AM-300x187.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Screenshot-2022-09-19-at-10.55.57-AM-768x479.png 768w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Screenshot-2022-09-19-at-10.55.57-AM-160x100.png 160w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Screenshot-2022-09-19-at-10.55.57-AM-350x218.png 350w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Screenshot-2022-09-19-at-10.55.57-AM-800x499.png 800w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Screenshot-2022-09-19-at-10.55.57-AM.png 1176w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 527px) 100vw, 527px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a research note today, Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd said\u00a0sentiments became\u00a0fragile prior\u00a0to the Malaysia Day holiday weekend last week, with all eyes\u00a0on the United States\u00a0Federal Reserve\u2019s September meeting and Malaysia\u2019s inflation rate data to be released\u00a0this\u00a0week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hence, the local bourse may continue to see sideways trading, along&nbsp;with its regional peers, it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On commodities, it noted that crude oil was trading above US$91 per barrel,&nbsp;while crude palm oil is hovering below RM3,900.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cAs for sectors in focus, the technology sector should remain under pressure,\u00a0in line\u00a0with the sentiment on Wall Street.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cInvestors may look out for the banking, telco and\u00a0consumer sectors, as well as building materials to prepare for\u00a0Budget tabling in October. We also like the export-oriented and\u00a0energy sectors,&#8221;<\/em> it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the heavyweights, Maybank\u00a0and CIMB Bank gained three sen each to RM8.61 and RM5.40, respectively,\u00a0Petronas Chemicals rose\u00a0five sen to RM8.67,\u00a0Public Bank eased\u00a0one\u00a0sen to RM4.46 and IHH Healthcare fell 25\u00a0sen to RM6.07.investors<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of the actives, Top Glove shed three sen to 73.5 sen, RGB eased half-a-sen to 11.5 sen and&nbsp;Supermax slid two sen to 71 sen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SNS Network Technology edged up half-a-sen to 30.5 sen, while Metronic was flat at two sen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the index board, the FBM Emas Index slipped&nbsp;99.56&nbsp;points to 10,375.02, the FBMT 100 Index fell&nbsp;97.56&nbsp;points to 10,117.09, the FBM Emas Shariah Index decreased 107.0&nbsp;points to 10,471.82, the FBM 70 slipped&nbsp;108.04&nbsp;points to 12,619.54 and&nbsp;the FBM ACE was 59.33&nbsp;points lower at 4,774.42.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sector-wise, the Energy Index was 5.5&nbsp;points easier&nbsp;at 732.12, the Plantation Index shed 3.47&nbsp;points to 6,854.65,&nbsp;the Financial Services Index dropped 133.81&nbsp;points to 16,357.67 and&nbsp;the Industrial Products and Services Index eased 0.94&nbsp;of-a-point to 180.53.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/\">NMT<\/a> as reported by <a
