KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14<\/strong> \u2014\u00a0JP Morgan is\u00a0optimistic that Malaysia will be able to meet the annual gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 7.7 per cent in 2022, which is\u00a0likely to be one of the highest in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to JP Morgan Malaysia chief executive officer Wong Hooi Ching, the country\u2019s economy is resilient with a strong banking system, supportive government and prudent corporate citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are also bullish and optimistic on the\u00a0electrical and electronic\u00a0(E&E)\u00a0industry as Malaysia has been currently supplying 10 per cent of the semiconductor components globally,\u201d<\/em> she said\u00a0at\u00a0the \u201cInvest Malaysia 2022 Series 1: Building Resilience Amidst Volatility\u201d\u00a0here,\u00a0today.<\/p>\n\n\n

Furthermore, she said Malaysia has managed to attract the highest foreign direct investment in the last six years, totalling US$1.9 billion (US$1=RM4.52) into the country as at August 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also said that Malaysia has a vast talent pool and as the economy transforms, JP Morgan plans to continue innovating, engaging and supporting the next generation of leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday, Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said Malaysia\u2019s economic growth may surpass the official estimates of between 5.3 and 6.3 per cent in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He attributed this to the country\u2019s rapid growth in the second quarter at 8.9 per cent and expected improved performance in the third quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said Malaysia is likely to chart even stronger growth in the third quarter\u00a0despite facing a weaker\u00a0global economy as well as the rising US dollar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new number forecast will be announced during the tabling of Budget 2023 on Oct 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
