KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2<\/strong> — The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) has reprimanded and imposed a RM2 million fine against former unit trust consultant Harani\u00a0Kamarudin for deceiving an\u00a0investor between November 2012 and\u00a0November 2019, causing the victim to lose RM1.32 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement today, the SC said\u00a0as part of his deception and towards enticing the victim to invest with him, Harani had,\u00a0among\u00a0others, made false representations as to the nature and characteristics of the investments as well as guaranteed certain investment results and returns to the victim,\u00a0which did not materialise.<\/p>\n\n\n

“Arising from his conduct and actions, he had contravened Section 354(1)(b)(iii) of the\u00a0Capital Markets and Services Act 2007 (CMSA) read together with provisions of the\u00a0Federation of Investment Managers Malaysia\u2019s Code of Ethics and Rules of Professional\u00a0Conduct (Unit Trust Funds).”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The SC\u2019s finding of breaches and sanctions on Harani was\u00a0made after according due\u00a0process to him, including opportunity for him to respond to SC on the aforesaid breaches\u00a0and SC\u2019s decision,”<\/em> it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
