RAM Ratings"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>KUALA LUMPUR, July 22<\/strong> &#8212; The overall total foreign outflow amounted to RM4.1 billion last month, as foreign investors turned net sellers of Malaysian Government Securities\u00a0(MGS) and Government Investment Issue (GII), said RAM Ratings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said that foreign investors had reduced&nbsp;their holdings by RM4.3 billion after a brief respite in May, adding that&nbsp;the foreign outflow was largely induced by fears of a more aggressive monetary policy tightening in the United States (US)&nbsp;as well as risk aversion amid rising concerns over a potential global economic slowdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThe flight-to-safety sentiment resulted in a broad rise in bond yields as the one-year and 10-year MGS yields climbed 33.1 basis points (bps)\u00a0and 6.5 bps month-on-month,\u00a0respectively,\u00a0as of end-June,\u201d<\/em> it said in a statement today.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Screenshot-2022-07-22-at-12.56.50-PM-1024x556.png\" alt=\"foreign outflow\" class=\"wp-image-14400\" width=\"652\" height=\"354\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Screenshot-2022-07-22-at-12.56.50-PM-1024x556.png 1024w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Screenshot-2022-07-22-at-12.56.50-PM-300x163.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Screenshot-2022-07-22-at-12.56.50-PM-768x417.png 768w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Screenshot-2022-07-22-at-12.56.50-PM-184x100.png 184w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Screenshot-2022-07-22-at-12.56.50-PM-350x190.png 350w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Screenshot-2022-07-22-at-12.56.50-PM-800x435.png 800w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Screenshot-2022-07-22-at-12.56.50-PM.png 1182w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 652px) 100vw, 652px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Interest in the short-term government securities,&nbsp;Malaysian&nbsp;Treasury Bills (MTB) and Malaysian Islamic Treasury Bills (MITB) also remained positive,&nbsp;with net foreign purchases of RM233.1 million in June,&nbsp;extending the&nbsp;inflow streak to five consecutive months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, RAM Ratings said selling pressure on longer-duration bonds&nbsp;appeared&nbsp;to have waned since mid-June as long-term yields started to fall despite a continued uptick in short-term yields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It noted that the 10-year MGS yield fell to 4.06 per cent on July 20 from &nbsp;4.33 per cent&nbsp;on June 15, tracking the decline in the 10-year US Treasury bond yield which fell to 3.04 per cent from&nbsp;3.33 per cent over the same period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rating agency attributed the&nbsp;dip in the long-term yield to the&nbsp;growing trepidation over a potential US recession, which could entail future rate stays or cuts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cAs investors continue to assess the economic outlook, longer-term yields are expected to remain pressured on the downside in the near term, while\u00a0shorter-term yields will likely continue to trend upwards in response to further monetary policy tightening,\u201d<\/em> it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/\">NMT<\/a> as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bernama.com\/en\/news.php?id=2102756\">Bernama<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 &#8212;
