KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 —\u00a0Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today granted an audience to Chinese\u00a0Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi at Istana Negara here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the audience was the first for Wang Yi, who is on a two-day official visit to Malaysia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also present were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah, Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing and Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Amran Mohamed Zin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahmad\u00a0Fadil said during their meeting, which lasted 45 minutes,\u00a0His Majesty and the minister discussed various matters relating to bilateral relations between Malaysia and China which\u00a0had existed since 1974.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cThe discussion of the two leaders also touched on efforts to bring trade and economic cooperation between the two countries to greater heights following the elevation of Malaysia-China relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2013.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBoth countries will celebrate the 10th\u00a0anniversary of the partnership next year,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 he said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahmad Fadil said Al-Sultan Abdullah expressed his appreciation and happiness for the close and special relationship between Malaysia and China in various aspects, including the assistance extended by the Chinese government and cooperation between the two countries in combating the spread of COVID-19 and in the post-pandemic recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHis Majesty\u00a0expresses\u00a0his appreciation to His Excellency Wang Yi for the invitation to make\u00a0an official visit to China.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHis Majesty is also pleased to invite China\u2019s President His Excellency Xi Jinping\u00a0to conduct\u00a0an official visit to Malaysia. The last time His Excellency Xi Jinping visited Malaysia was in 2013,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, Al-Sultan Abdullah and Wang also discussed on the investment projects of Chinese companies in Pahang, especially in the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park in Gebeng.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Ahmad Fadil, His Majesty expressed appreciation to the Chinese government because the projects were a catalyst for economic growth, especially in Pahang and Malaysia\u2019s East Coast Economic Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2009, China has been Malaysia\u2019s largest trading partner and accounted for 18.9 per cent of the country\u2019s total trade in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, China\u2019s trade volume with Malaysia also reached a record high of US$101.55 billion (RM450.6 billion) last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart from that, foreign direct investment stocks from China to Malaysia reached RM25.91 billion in 2021. Also, Malaysia recorded RM16.6 billion of approved investments from China last year, while the implementation of investments with participation from China reached RM1.82 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
