{"id":14136,"date":"2022-06-15T13:00:19","date_gmt":"2022-06-15T05:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=14136"},"modified":"2022-06-15T13:00:21","modified_gmt":"2022-06-15T05:00:21","slug":"malaysia-records-rm42-8-billion-approved-investments-from-january-to-march-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=14136","title":{"rendered":"Malaysia records RM42.8 billion approved investments from January to March 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Kuala Lumpur, June 15<\/strong> &#8212; Malaysia attracted a total of RM42.8 billion (US$10.2 billion) in approved investments in the manufacturing, services and primary sectors for 910 projects between January and March 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) said foreign direct investments (FDIs) remained the major contributor at 65% or RM27.8 billion (US$6.6 billion), while investments from domestic sources contributed 35%, amounting to RM15 billion (US$3.6 billion).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cThe approved investments for this period will create 24,906 new jobs in the country,\u201d<\/em> it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The manufacturing sector continued to assume an important role in driving the country\u2019s economic recovery during the period, accounting for more than half (70.1%) of total approved investments of RM30 billion (US$7.1 billion), followed by the services sector at RM12.7 billion (US$3 billion, 29.7%) and the primary sector at RM100 million (US$40.4 million, 0.2%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/general-aerial-view-of-kuala-lumpur-malaysia-AAEF05460-1024x767.jpg\" alt=\"approved investments\" class=\"wp-image-14137\" width=\"498\" height=\"373\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/general-aerial-view-of-kuala-lumpur-malaysia-AAEF05460-1024x767.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/general-aerial-view-of-kuala-lumpur-malaysia-AAEF05460-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/general-aerial-view-of-kuala-lumpur-malaysia-AAEF05460-768x575.jpg 768w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/general-aerial-view-of-kuala-lumpur-malaysia-AAEF05460-133x100.jpg 133w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/general-aerial-view-of-kuala-lumpur-malaysia-AAEF05460-350x262.jpg 350w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/general-aerial-view-of-kuala-lumpur-malaysia-AAEF05460-800x599.jpg 800w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/general-aerial-view-of-kuala-lumpur-malaysia-AAEF05460.jpg 1232w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 498px) 100vw, 498px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cOf the total FDIs approved, Germany dominated with investments totalling RM8.9 billion (US$2.1 billion, 32%), followed by Brunei at RM5.1 billion (US$1.2 billion, 18.3%), the US at RM3.9 billion (US$900 million, 14%), Hong Kong at RM3.3 billion (US$800 million, 11.9%), and Japan at RM3.2 billion (US$800 million, 11.5%),\u201d<\/em> Mida said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For projects approved by state, it said five major states \u2013 Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Sabah and Johor \u2013 contributed RM31.8 billion (US$7.6 billion, 74.3%) of the total investments approved from January to March 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">International Trade and Industry Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali said Malaysia remained an attractive investment destination for global investors with the manufacturing sector maintaining its position as a key pillar of the economy for 2022, generating significant multiplier effects on the nation\u2019s growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cToday, we are proud to have over 5,000 companies from more than 40 countries that have made Malaysia their location for manufacturing and related services operations,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said Malaysia would continue to focus on high growth and high value-added sectors which offer Malaysians exciting job opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cAligned with the 12th Malaysia Plan, Malaysia has been securing new investments that position well with the country\u2019s national investment aspirations and environmental, social and governance principles.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cThis will put us in good stead to capture more economic opportunities.
