KUALA LUMPUR, June 10<\/strong> —\u00a0Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah\u2019s meeting with EU Ambassador to ASEAN and\u00a0Special Envoy\u00a0to\u00a0Myanmar Igor Driesmans\u00a0received positive feedback from several Myanmar netizens, who viewed\u00a0the meet\u00a0as a progressive step towards achieving the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) on the Myanmar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saifuddin, in his tweet, said he had a fruitful discussion with Driesmans on Thursday, adding that both of them had discussed finding new and creative steps in achieving meaningful implementation of the 5PC, including engagements with all stakeholders involved in Myanmar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn addition, we touched on preparations for the upcoming ASEAN-EU Commemorative Summit scheduled in December 2022 in Brussels to mark the 45th anniversary of ASEAN-EU dialogue relations,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Driesmans, in his reply tweet, thanked Saifuddin for his leadership and for the in-depth discussion on Myanmar including improving access to humanitarian aid, ending violence, and starting a political dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the comments on the meet, a\u00a0Twitter user under the\u00a0account name \u2018Aurora\u2019\u00a0replied to Saifuddin\u2019s tweet saying \u2018please meet with our government @NUGMyanmar (National Unity Government of Myanmar)\u00a0for humanitarian aids and please support our democracy movement\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another\u00a0Twitter user under the\u00a0account name Soe Thu said: \u2018Thanks\u2026.Malaysia is the only ASEAN country to have moral and courage to speak out and stand on the side of justice.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Twitter user Aung Min Myat said: \u2018Thanks a lot. Please keep supporting us, we’ll always remember Malaysia as a good friend\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Myanmar is under junta rule following the Feb 1, 2021, coup that overthrew a democratically-elected government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The junta failed to commit to the 5PC, reached between ASEAN leaders and the junta chief Senior General Min Aung Hliang in April last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The five points are: end the violence; hold constructive talks among all stakeholders; ASEAN provides humanitarian aid to Myanmar; a special ASEAN envoy appointed to conduct talks; and the envoy to be allowed to visit the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Saifuddin also shared the tweet post of Malaysia Mission to the United Nations on the United Nations Security Council resolution over North Korea for its latest intercontinental ballistic missile tests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tweet read: Malaysia expressed grave concern over the situation in the Korean peninsula and stressed the need for self-restraint and dialogue towards complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
