TOKYO, May 28 <\/strong>—\u00a0Prime Minister\u00a0Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said\u00a0Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin was still the Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister and she would\u00a0carry out her duties as\u00a0usual until he made a decision on the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ismail Sabri said Zuraida can still attend the Cabinet meeting and her position would be decided after they met later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI did not sack her, she is still a Cabinet minister\u00a0until the (Cabinet) meeting (is held) this Wednesday,\u201d<\/em> he told\u00a0Malaysian journalists\u00a0in Tokyo on Saturday at the end of his official working visit to Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zuraida, previously of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, announced on Thursday that she was joining Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) and was expected to meet the prime minister to discuss her resignation as the plantation industries and commodities minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zuraida was also reported to have said that she would continue to support the present government led by Ismail Sabri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ismail Sabri said he only found out about the matter through media coverage and Zuraida had not contacted him until now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe (Zuraida)\u00a0said she would meet me and talk to me. So wait for me to return (to Malaysia), discuss the matter, then we will decide,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ismail Sabri said he respected the views on the matter but the final decision on Zuraida\u2019s position still rested in the hands of the prime minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asked whether he would accept Zuraida\u2019s resignation after they met later, Ismail Sabri said: \u201cLet\u2019s not talk about the what-ifs…we\u2019ll cross the bridge when we get there.\u00a0So until I make a decision either to drop her or appoint someone else, Zuraida will continue her duties as usual.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ismail Sabri also said that any changes in the Cabinet line-up should be presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf there is a\u00a0new appointment,\u00a0it is not an easy thing. I must respect the (Yang di-Pertuan) Agong,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On whether his Cabinet was still intact, Ismail Sabri said \u201cthere is no issue at all.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, \u2018outsiders\u2019 might think\u00a0that today\u2019s Cabinet is \u2018chaotic\u2019 because it is made up of representatives of\u00a0various parties but\u00a0the current Cabinet members will leave all their political differences when making decisions in the interest of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen we are in the Cabinet, we\u00a0set aside\u00a0our\u00a0differences. For example during\u00a0(the state elections) in Johor and Melaka, we did not bring the matter\u00a0to the Cabinet. Our focus in the Cabinet is (to safeguard)\u00a0the interest of the country and the people regardless of which party, we make decisions together,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
