PADANG BESAR, May 5<\/strong> —\u00a0Travelers from Malaysia and Thailand can now use their border passes\u00a0to enter the two countries starting today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perlis Border Relations and Cooperation Committee chairman Ruzaini Rais said the relaxation was given after Malaysia and Thailand reached an agreement to spur the economic recovery of both nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said\u00a0travelers or tourists who wanted to use the border pass\u00a0needed to apply through the Thailand Pass\u00a0web portal\u00a024 hours prior to their departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHowever, only residents\u00a0in four states, namely Perlis, Kedah, North Perak, and Kelantan are allowed to use this border pass.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThose who use the pass are also only allowed to enter Thailand for three days,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he said after visiting\u00a0the Immigration, Customs and Quarantine Complex (ICQ), here today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commenting further, Ruzaini said\u00a0travelers or tourists from Thailand who use the border pass were also allowed\u00a0to travel back and forth into the country provided that they had been\u00a0fully vaccinated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the\u00a0same standard operating procedures\u00a0(SOP) imposed for the reopening\u00a0of the\u00a0country\u2019s borders on April 1 also applied to\u00a0travelers or tourists who used passports to enter\u00a0Malaysia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey are also required to have travel insurance and undergo a health screening first,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Ruzaini said 82 travelers had been recorded\u00a0crossing the Malaysia-Thailand border using the Padang Besar ICQ border gate as of 10am today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the number of travelers was expected to increase within a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 1, the Wang Kelian border gate was reopened to citizens of Malaysia and Thailand\u00a0after being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
